sycotickid 08-26-2006, 05:01 PM any idea what common trucks came with a 205
Camarogenius 08-26-2006, 05:35 PM Chevys and dodges from the 70's into the 90's. they're not hard to find. I got mine free, just cause the guy wanted to see me throw it in the back of the truck without help.
lt1jeep 08-26-2006, 11:13 PM The 205 is the best t case but you will need a adapter to make it bolt up to the 5 speed. Yuo will need one out of a ford to get the driverside drop.
Snyiper 08-27-2006, 07:03 PM Why a Ford for the driver side drop? Is Advance the people I want to see about a adapter? Is the 205 a full time or does it need a part time kit installed while its out? Ill be helping Sycotic kid with this project I suspect thats why the questions.
Tikiclub2 08-27-2006, 07:21 PM You need a driver's side drop transfer case. All GM IFS front suspension runs their differentals on the driver's side (at least fullsize i believe). The 205 was used under solid front axles and the output shaft to the front axle is on the passanger side. Advanced Adapters probably carries something or could point you in the right direction.
sycotickid 08-28-2006, 03:08 PM ok another problem advanced adapters dosent make any thing for my nv3500 transmission and i really need help deciding on a transfercase that will ither bold directly to the trans or finding adapter plates thanks guys for your pacients

bggrnchvy 08-28-2006, 04:20 PM Whats wrong with your 241? IMO just fix the pads that wore out or whatever little thing is wrong with it.
If your keeping the IFS there's no need to upgrade to anything other than the 241, something else will pop before it does unless you drop the truck on it(thats what skidplates are for).
Ive got a 60 upfront and I still run a 241, the lowrange is fun, the built in VSS is nice and I seem to break front shafts before I break the case(after is another story, ).
You could always look into swapping in a BW4401. They came in 3500 trucks, same drop, 32 spline input, even tougher than a 241, should bolt right up.

the reason for not fixing the one i have is because it gernaded n blew the whole case apart n i dunno what caused it prolly lack of fluid AND some idiot 4x4 on the road idunno what the deal is i bought it and now im tryin to fix it
bggrnchvy 08-28-2006, 05:51 PM Ah, yea cracked case halves will really set you back in trying to fix a transfer case. Go pick up another replacement for $100, Im sure there are a couple in the for sale section. They put these behind every K1500/2500's from 88 to about 97 when they only put them behind 50% of the K1500's/2500's. Needless to say there is a surplus of used driver side drop 241's.
sycotickid 08-29-2006, 06:17 AM The 241 in the truck or on the tailgate now is trash..only thing salvagable may be the chain and sensors.....We suspect that it was cracked on a rock (no plates) and they tried to drive it home with the fluid all over the trail and it simply exploded looks like it was overheated pretty good before it went...

I agree..........just find another 241 and toss it in. IMO, the IFS will explode before the 241 (what size tires and use? That will determine the life of the IFS). Plate it and be done. Unless you're looking to SAS it?
BlaZeR2_matt 08-29-2006, 07:42 AM Check and see what the bolt pattern is. On the S-10s with the NV3500 it's a 5 bolt pattern instead of the usual 6 bolt pattern. If it is the 6 bolt pattern you should have lots of options. With the 5 bolt you're kinda hosed unless you get it custom made.
FWIW I would put another 241 in there and try not to crack the case open. No case is going to deal with that well.
sycotickid 09-03-2006, 11:32 AM ok guys im going to look for a nother stock 241 and see how long it lasts currently im running 31 inch tires put hope to buy 33s or 35s in the near future thanks again for all the help
