I have one on my jeepster. good filtration but messy as hell on an angle. I think they have some restriction to them vs. a K&N. Not recommended IMHO

Oil baths are very good in dusty areas. Same principle K&N uses with their filters, but just not as messy.

I'd love to find an origanal Oil Bath filter for my EB with V-8.

If ya gotta ask, you're too young to remember them!:D

They are air filters that have a small pool of oil to help keep out the dirt & dust. That's the low easy definition.
BTW, I personaly think they suck. Todays filters (even the dry type) are more efficient than the old oil bath ones. Why do you think Cat equipment uses dry filters?

The motor sucks air thru a bowl filled w/ oil. The air bubbles thru the oil. It filters the air by making a turn at the bottom (air goes in the top, down around a baffle and back out the top). The principle is that the particles won't be able to make the trun and get stuck to the oil.

They are a large restriction to flow and not as effective at filtering as a paper filter.

Cat did a long study of filters and ended up saying they work best for dusty conditions and low cost of maintenance. The problem is they can make a hell of a mess on the trail.

The rest is right but this part is wrong. I don't care how much vacuum you have, your not pulling air thru oil using an engine! . The Oil level leaves a 1/8 to 1/4"open that is usually filled with coarse steel wool that get coated with oil from slosh. .

You would have to roll to spill any out of a rover oilbath filter

Have four of them sitting on the shelf if anyone "needs" an oil bath filter.
