I have searched this site and others for two hours now, i need help!

OK i have a 91 Yj with a np231 & 4banger. I helped a buddy install the same JB SYE kit a month ago, everything went smoothly & works perfectly.

I go to install my kit tonight and ran into a small problem. The drive sprocket will NOT fit over the new HD shaft?? Anyone else have this problem and what is the solution. I cant remember if the 95 had needle bearings or not, but mine does and they have a smaller I.D than the O.D of the new shaft. The OD of the shaft is the exact OD of the bearing race. The new shaft has two raised areas that seem to be where the needles would ride, but the drive sprocket wont even start down on the biggest part of the output shaft.

I wouldnt think you would need to remove the bearings for the sprocket to ride on the elevated ridges on the shaft. But hell anything is possible!

HELP! TIA

You got it. I just did a JB 241 SYE and in the 241 instructions it tells you to do just that... remove the needle bearings--the gear floats directly on the shaft. If I remember right, I think it said in the instructions that the stock 241s came both ways--with the needle bearings and without.

I think the JB 231 SYE kit uses a 241 shaft...

Thanks Jake, it is a 241 shaft. My buddy said his directions had the note to remove the bearings. Mine didnt have the note, i guess i lost it. Hell my kit was missing the snap rings so it was probably missing the note in the directions too. Thanks man. Another firday evening going to be killed drinkin:beer: & workin on the Heep, my g/f hates me now:D
