: Diff drain/fill plug

While changing the gear lube in my dodge rear end today I noticed the fill plug was magnetic. It would be nice if the rover ones were too. Did a comparison and I could put the magnetic dodge fill plug in place of the rover one. Next time I think about it I'll get a couple from the dodge dealer and put in to catch junk floating around. Just a little FYI for the obsessive types.

newer discos and range rovers have magnetic plugs so if you know someone that has a newer one and doesn't know much about them see if you can trade plugs straight up. Tell them the older ones are stronger or something along that strain. Should at least amuse you.

For those cheepo's out there....A little JB weld on the bottom of the stock plug, and a dime-store magnet will work as well :)

Just make sure that dime store magnet doesn't hit the ring gear. I saw one guy (not a rover, don't remember what kind of axle it was) screw his drain plug in so far that it hit the ring gear. Then the thing munched on the inside of the plug and it buggered the threads trying to take it back out.

Same goes for the Dodge plug...Hell...Just get one of those 1/8" magnets off the back of the one on your fridge...You know...The ugly one your wife insists she keep on the fridge for "lists" and things...She won't even notice it missing! JB it on and your done...

What's even funnier is that there is no way in hell she would ever find it either. especially when it gets a camo makeover with mud.
