i might be getting a 74cj 5, everyhting that is worng with it i can fix, except it needs a clutch, i was wondering how hard it is to do? and also how much a shop would charge

It is not hard. If you have the time and place to do it , id say go ahead.

Just did one in my dads 78 cj5 , nothin to it. Make sure you get the flywheel resurfaced while its apart and replace the pilot bushing in the rear of the crankshaft , as well as the throwout bearing. Check all your clutch linkages and bushings also , they are cheap to replace and will improve the feel of the clutch if it had a lot of takeup or slack before.

This would be a good time to reseal a leaking transmission or t-case and to change out driveshaft u-joints , replace transmission mounts.

drop the t-case and tranny, have a buddy to help, these are heavy and very hard to work with alone, pull off the presure plate, remove pilot bearing/bushing, put in new pilot bearing/bushing, install new clutch disk and presure plate with the little alightnment tool they give you, put in the new throw out bearing, reinstall tranny and t-case. all done


dont forget to get he flywheel cut if its needed, ive seen guys get away without cutting the flywheel but i always have it done
