I'm sitting here looking at this rolled, V-8 800 I have.... wondering what I have in store for it in the future....
Thinking maybe re-skinning it in Scout II sheet-metal... and them maybe ploping it on a Scout II frame....
Why?!? Cause I like the SII body lines better, but the 800 has alot of things going for it... #1 the better doors and door openings... #2 the simpler wind-sheild (eiser to make fold down, eisier to get a cage right up to)..
am I on crack?? I figured with Travler rear quaters... and a bob job.... it would look sweet. Narrow and graft in a SII front clip.... boom, easy. Cut out the wheel wells, full cage......
seems easier than creating some SSII like door openings (I don't care much for the inserts) and still haveing doors when I feal like it....
plus they are a *bit* narrower....
:smokin:

Crack :flipoff2:
So you'd keep the 800 tube, minus the 800 front clip, and graft on the Scout II rear fenders? That's a lot of dam work, the SII clip may not be the hard to do, but the rear fenders a big PITA!
Why not an 800 tilt front, pound out the dents on the rear fenders and call it good?
I was taking a look at my SII frame, trying to decide if I could run fiber glass fender skins, and a hood with all tube underneath. For a full tube buggy nice and light.

Hey Joe,
I you decide that you want to run a tube-ish buggy with fiberglass...I may be tempted to partially sponser you in helping to fab this thing up...The more side work I do, the more I like it....Maybe we should talk more at the Reno event...
Oh, and RW..you own a Scout...of course your on Crack...I say do what ever you want though....It would be kinda cool to have a Scout 8II:D

I'm with Joe - and I'm sure I have an 800 tub you can have if you want to come get it, Mark. :-)
Tilt clip the front, gut the inners.. plenty of room for p/s, p/b, etc. at that point.
Seems decent 800 tubs are easier to come by than SII tubs, too.. or maybe there's just more of them in the junkyards around here because they're just older? :D

You mean like my racer's front clip, less the tube work? :D
My front clip is purely cosmetic (LOL!).. just there for show.
I'm still running steel fenders/hood/grille. I think the factory steel stuff is probably lighter than new 'glass, though I think the glass might be a little less likely to flap (stiffer).
I've heard rumors of a one-piece FG SII front clip being planned, but I'm not holding my breath just yet.
But..
You could leave the front end more or less like it "is" but delete the inner fenders.
Run tube just under the tops of the outer fenders and weld a flange to it to bolt the outer fenders to (otherwise there's nothing holding them in place).
Maybe make two runs of tube, so you can build a shelf underneath the top tube to mount stuff to - like the battery, washer bottle, puke bottle, etc.
Hmmm...
