: What springs to use for SOA and room for 38.5s?
cams1021 04-26-2002, 12:06 PM I have the axle issue figured out, but I cant decide on the springs. Rubicon express spring over springs dont have the room for 38.5s, and the 4.5" extreme duty leaves dont work well with spring overs. I have pro comp 2.5 leaves I could use, but I dont know if thats enough lift for 38.5s. Id rather not spend 1,000+ for national spring custom units. Suggestions? Oh and its a 82 '7
use the 1.5 inchers, a one inch body lift and get the sawzall
madmarx 04-26-2002, 12:17 PM I used SOA with Superlift 4 inch springs with a couple leafs taken out and TJ Flares to fit my TSL 38's on my 83 CJ7

how long have you had it that way? whats the sagging situation looking like?
oh, and pics of your jeep?
TPIJeep 04-26-2002, 01:08 PM I run 4" springs SOA with an extra leaf up front, and 2 extras in the back for my 38.5's, main reason for all the height is I have a shackle reversal and it pushes the tire back into the fender, I plan on TJ flares when this is done I may be able to go back to regular 4".
You asked for a pic here is one...
cams1021 04-26-2002, 01:15 PM damn thats sweet. Mines going to be TJ flame red, so that pic makes my blood race :D
What shackle reversal are you using if its a pre fab?
The avalanche full width kit I want to use moves the axle a inch foreward

This should help.
2" BL Rancho 44044 springs will fit 38.5's just fine
four_by_nut 04-26-2002, 02:43 PM My suggestion........what has worked REALLY well for me.......
I have stock Wrangler leaves with an additional main leaf under the first leaf. Did this by cutting the spring eye off of a main Wrangler leaf and inserting it in to the pack just under the first leaf. I used Wrangler rears all around. I also run a 2" body lift and have the fenders trimmed a lot like the way you see ARCA guys running them (I don't have a picture at hand to attach). I also have a shackle reverse up front. With full width axles, it flexes like a mad man and just clears my 38.5" TSL/SX's. If you can fit the flexy Wrangler springs and stay away from arched springs, you'll get more flex. Problem now is axle wrap.
This is what I have found works well for me. If you want a pic I can post that once I round one up.
ChadLloyd 04-26-2002, 03:04 PM I would SEVERELY like a picture. This is almost my exact setup, and I am using 35 SXs now and want to go to 38.5s, trying to figure out how to do it. I have:
SOA, 6 leaf packs, made of stock 5 leaf rear packs + doubled main
SR up front
Longer shackles in the back to even it out with front
1 inch body lift
waggy axles.
Right now, I have enough clearance in back, plus some additional trimming and relocating of flares should be no problem.
However, in front the tire rubs both the tub, where I've trimmed the body right back to the inner fenderwell, and top of the fender, where the flare attaches.
So I can't see how I can get 38.5s on. I want to get them on without any more lift, Just trimming. I thought of flat fendering it, but that alone won't be enough, and I need to run flares to drive to and from the trails.
So yes, a picture and a few more details about your trimming would be helpful, thanks.

cams1021 04-26-2002, 04:06 PM whats the deal with these waggy springs? I am assuming you mean wagoneer springs. Is the pin offset towards the front or somthing? If they are, has anyone use waggy lift springs on a SOA?

If you do a search on the waggy springs, you will find all your answers. Yes, the pin is offset 2" on the front ones. Front, back, up to you. Depends on how you mount the springs. Mine is with JC Whitney front waggy springs. Mounted them so the short side is out on the frame ends. No body lift, cut the rear wheel wells, and cut 3" off the hood and made tube fenders.
AggieLR 04-26-2002, 07:25 PM this summer i'm goin w/ d44 and 14 bolt from a 3/4 ton chevy full width and i'm goin to run just some 6 leaf cj springs and cut the fenders to fit 38x12.5, keeps my center of gravity down and fairly flat springs, can't wait for my damn finals to be over so i can start this project, sawzall is warmed up ready to go
rockhog 04-26-2002, 10:32 PM Put the 2.5 procomps on that you have and remove the flairs. This
set up will work fine.

Ive read that the pro comps break easily and sag with SOA... and I do need flairs, it needs to be streel legal :p
H8monday 04-28-2002, 10:43 PM I use 2.5" Rancho Waggy springs up front(44044), and a secret recipe of Stock Land Criuser, and Grand Waggy springs in the rear. No Body Lift and a lot of fabricated tube fender work.
