Can it be done cheaply?

What will I need?

Where the hell is the search function!!?? :mad3:

This is on my Bronco II. I was told my setup would be easier with full hydro (guy setting up my suspension).

inexpesively, yes, cheaply, no.

Orbital valve (SCU), ram, lines, good pump and resivour

Read the sticky thread at the top of the forum, you have to support the board to have search

In a lot of cases full hydro will be easier to setup on a linked suspension, but if your fabricator cannot make crossover steering work and that is what you want, find another fabricator. It is not difficult to make crossover steering work in most scenarios.

There is a good article in the tech section of this board, it will explain all you ever wanted to know about full hydro.

Later,
Jason

I would rather just do hydro assist, but wanted to investigate full hydro before I did. Looks like I probably won't be able to afford full hydro.

Thanks.

Send your box into PSC for a tap and rebuild, have them toss in a hydro assist cylinder kit, and you'll have what you need to make it all work.

www.pscmotorsports.com

They also have full hydro kits available. Cutting corners on steering is not where I'd choose to save a buck. That equates to cheaping out on brakes. Never a good idea...

Man places like that are just too high. Can't afford that on a poor man's budget. :(

Unless you plan on never driving on the road talk to these guys if cash is short. They have a good product for a decent price. http://westtexasoffroad.homestead.com/hydrosteering.html

or PSC, Howe are good.

Then rebuild and tap your box yourself, and throw on a surplus supply ram. Napa can make hoses for pretty cheap. Pony up the bucks for a membership to get the search function so you know how to modify the box, and count it as part of the build cost.

If you plan to drive it on the road, a Full hydro system will cost about 1k.
If its trail only, and you want crappy tractor parts you can do it for 200-400$

Check out Rockstomper.com the sell a lot of full hydro parts.

this is what i got in a recent setup. it wasn't horribly expensive and the "crappy tractor parts" work great for a trail rig that you want to steer cut 42's with one finger with..

-a ospb danfoss steering valve - 339.00 northern tool
-a 6 inch column - 55.00 northern tool
-a 8 inch 3000 psi ram. - 55.00 ebay
- some scrap steel to mount the ram and the danfoss- 0.00
-2 3/4 heims for tie rod ends - 50.00
-5 feet of thick DOM for a tierod - 45.00
-hydro lines 70.00

615.00 for full hydro

now drill your pump out an 1/8th inch and stretch the spring.

If you want to save green on the steering valve, try going to a salvage yard that has commercial/industrial/agricultural equipment around. By your location (Missouri) that shouldnt be too difficult. I am using a forklift valve and wheel with others that grab them from combines. Surplus center for a great selection of rams.

Danfoss valve and a normal tie rod ram is not Crappy tractor parts :P
Hit up a tractor graveyard, Those are crappy tractor parts :P

I thought I paid about $250 for my steering valve from sean stapley(station) and it is not "crappy tractor parts". The rest of your prices seem about right.

Domestic tractor parts generally aren't "crappy"- I would bet money that they are one and the same that can be bought from vendors here. Farmers make their living with their equipment so if it isn't reliable it wont survive on the market. Rams are where you can find pieces-o-crap. It doesn't have to be overpriced bling, just stick with a name brand and you should be fine.

Ya comming from a small farm, our JD loader runs full hydro and its solid, precice and works smoth and efortlessly unloaded or with all that the loader can pick up. it has enough force to turn the break beads lose if your not watching it when loaded heavy in softer turf. BTDT sucked major.

the only drawback i see to farm parts is that they are non-feedback or atleas the ones i have used.
