Hey guys I am having a very hard time keeping my bronco running and I was wondering if you had any input. I had the carb rebuilt about two weeks ago and it ran great. Before the carb rebuild It would stumble all of the time and occationally die all together. Some of the time it would almost die and I would have to pump the gas fast to keep it going. Well this morning it started to stumble again did not start as well as it has been. I have not even been having to push the gas to start it until today. Should I take the carb back or is it something else. If any more info is needed just ask and I will get back to you asap. I am getting really fed up with this. It is a 73 bronco with a 302 and stock 2bbl. It has a new fuel filter and pump, and new points. Thanks
Check to see if the carb hold down nuts have loosened(sp?). A vacume leak may have developed since the carb was reinstaled.
Check float setting for too high/low. or bad needle seats.

I would check the vacuum advance on your distributer also. Do you have an electronic ignition? If so, unplug the battery for a few minutes so the computer will reset. This could fix your problem..

I do not have electroinc ignition. It only happens when the tranny(C4) is in gear. When you give it gas it just bogs down. It does not die but is very close. When it is idling it runs great. You can give it gas and it runs fine. As soon as it is in gear it starts to happen. At times it does not even have enough power for me to do 30mph. I really need to get this fixed asap so if anyone has any further info I would be greatful. Thanks

It could be a gas-related problem, like the others have mentioned.
Also, you may want to look over the ignition circuit. I had this problem last year, and it turned out to be a bad ignition switch.

Check the lil' sock in the fuel tank sender, also check the fuel filter
and the fuel pump . You didn't specify but you might check your coil too ! Sure hope this helps you out . :flipoff2:

Ok,This is one of two most likely things. Vacume leak under the carb. I had a 250 I6 and it would run in nuetral fine. Put it in gear and it would run like crap and it coundn't be made to move under it's own power.
Second, It also sounds like it is not getting enough voltage at the plugs. under no engine (nuetral at idle or reving in nuetral)load the voltage necsessary to jump the gap on the plug is low. When the engine is under load the amount of air/fuel mixture in each cylinder increases which increases the resistence the spark has to fight against. Thus the voltage needs to be great enough to jump the gap. Check or change the plug wires, the coil, cap and rotor, check and clean and gap the plugs. In short do a tune up if you haven't done it yet.
Good luck
Eric

sounds kind of like a stuck choke....is it a manual or auto choke?

I have a new cap, rotor, plugs , plug wires, battery, I am getting a new coil on monday. Anyone know where to get an internally restricted coil(Autozone checker Carquest etc dont have one)I guess NAPA is the last chance but they are closed today. I dont think the carb is leaking underneath. New seals/proper torqe. The choke is electric and is not sticking. Thanks for the help so far guys.

??????
Ford uses a resistor wire in the wireing harness. you don't need a coil with an internal resistor.

A mechanic friend I have said I needed an internally restricted coil is there any possibility ford put one on my bronco??? If not I guess I will go with the normal one
