: C-6 question

The winter project is a '77 highboy frame, shorten it 32 inches, CJ-8 body, pissed off coilover suspension. It's got a 4 speed in it, but I would prefer an auto 'cause this one will live in the rocks in Colorado... Is there any aftermarket availability to change the first gear ratio (or all ratios) lower, like to where the GM 700R4 is? I'd like to run a 460, but if there's nothing available, I'm gonna have to swap in a GM 454 and a 700R4... I know it's heresy, but it's all about the first gear ratio... This rig will be a trailer queen, so it will probably NEVER see 3rd gear. I thought about an Atlas xfer instead of the 205, but I've got the GM parts, and can do tranny work, so it's cost effective to modify the C-6, or swap in GM power...

You can get a planetary gearset that increases power handling by 40% and changes the first gear ratio to 2.76 and the second gear ratio to 1.76. TCI sells it. You can get it from summit or jegs.

It's the planetary set from an E4OD/4r100. A little bit of searching should reveal exactly what is needed for the swap. Or just buy the TCI kit $$.

i don`t know exactly what parts are involved to do the swap but i have a c-6 with the E4OD gearset which lowers first gear and i think 2nd.u also have the option of 3,4 or 6 pinion carriers go with the 6 pinion which is the diesel carrier

I got the same info from trannyboy and I'm starting to collect the parts. Hopefully I can have the e4od stuff soon.

NH, what gears are you running in your diffs?

i havent even done the swap to auto yet shawnM...... thats been delayed due to having to start my build up so late in the season this year..... i hopefully will deal with pulling the 435 and dropping in the c6 next spring/ summer...... right now ive got stock gears (3.73's i think) and 35s..... on the street speeds it doesnt have any issues, but i also have a motor with some mods......

Yup yup, E4OD guts for the C6 works well. Same deal on the AOD using 4R70w internals.

Is this the only way to get those guts? I didn't see the 6 planetary for the C6 listed on TCI's website. Is there someone that sells these new other than the stealer or the junkyard?

Find a tranny shop that deals with Axiom Automotive. That's where we get our parts from where I work (tranny shop). All the E4OD stuff is available, and it isn't all that expensive. I've fixed a few of 'em with exploded guts and the 6 gear ft. carrier wasn't all that expensive....
