: Engine Builders, harmonic dampener question

Just found out that the stock '78 T-bird pulleys that came off the motor wont work with my new water pump/harmonic dampener. They are missaligned by almost a whole grove. I ordered the dampener for a '85 351w in a truck (was the only one I could get at the time), and the water pump is the only casting they still make for a standard 351w (uses same casting for all carb 351w's). So heres the dilema, my parts man at Advance informed me that I couldn't get a new dampener for the '78 T-bird windsor, only one they still list is the one that I have, which is about 3/4" too long. Anyone know the exact part number I need, or should I try to find new pulleys of some sort. Also, how bad would it be if I just ran the factory dampener that we pulled off instead of messing around with all these diff. pulley configurations?

Thanks for any input.

How's the factory dampener look? When putting everything back together verify that tdc on the balancer is actually tdc, and you should be OK. There is at least one company that rebuilds them. Can't think of the name right now.

Thanks for the info. I just talked to my buddy and I think he found me a new one at the local speed shop, if its not right I'll look into reusing the old one (although I wouldn't like to).
