Also, how thick(tall) are those arms?

ToyFamily

just a thought... i would move the rear coil over mount to a position inside of the cage so they do not get cleaned off by a rock.

The shifters are off to the right and have full function. The shifter for the front case is not in yet, but will be a short shifter, located in the center. The links are 1.75"x.25" wall DOM. They're not done yet, only had enough yesterday for the bottom two on the rear. Teh final product will be wishbone 3 links f/r. As it sat in the mock up, the wheel base is 103".

ToyFamily
04-28-2002, 12:07 PM
about the links being not beef enough they are .250 (correction on wilson) 1.5 DOM.... Mike at B&T is running it on the sammi and has rocked em and they laugh.........besides we're looking at about 1800lbs finished weight.....there is a scale out back here at Bent and Twisted so we'll weight it afterward and post a follow up

ajenda today- bend up the fuel cell support tubing, t-case x member, and bend up the tube for the radiator (it's behind driver seat, oh and as Camo's advised I'm going to bend some 1" tube around the outside of the coilovers.....come awn back and see the pics in a couple of hours

Am I seeing things or are those coil overs mounted in single shear?

Wilson
04-28-2002, 10:06 PM
Yeah, they are, Nick's thought about that already. We think it'll work, considerign the weight and power of the buggy. He's adding a hoop outside the coilovers to protect them from rocks. If it has problems, it won't be a big deal to run a sleeve through this hoop and make it double shear.

Not yet, Some of the front axle parts got misplaced before/during the move. Should have some this week. I think Nick is going to locate the front axle as soon as the DOM arrives. Hoping to fire it up this weekend to try and work the bugs out next week.

It's single shear with a sleeved frame. My family goes to the desert every year and I got the idea from a sandrail with 14" travel coilovers, he was doing huge jumps and 40 mhp whoops and it was fine..... I won't be doin that, so for what I'm doing it should work....

thanks guys:D

i hope i end up being credited with a shock save :D

one more little tid bit. i know you just got the orbit valve mounted but you will save yourself a major PITA in the future if you move the valve down below the height of your resivior. the way it is now you will get air trapped in the valve and that will play havic on your steering control. it will be erratic and notchy feeling at best. mount every thing below the resivior and the air will travel to the highest spot and self bleed into the resivior

besides that it is really looking great.

Will they have to move the orbital, or could they just put the resivior on top of the roof? :D

Jimmy, you and those damn optima's. The one in the picture is dead !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's Nick's old optima and there is a hole worn into the side of it. The buggy will be running my battery and tires, since my pile is still under reconstruction.

I think that head gasket has been out for a while, and told Nick so, but he swore it wasn't since the guy he bought it from said the top end was done a little while ago. Funny that it had that surging idle though???? That really sucks, he was hoping that the truck would last him until Cal Rocs was over and he could start working again.

I think Nick will chime in before he leaves Rocklin, but it's looking like the damage was the head gasket and two rods!!! Thomas got to practice his Spanish and found out that the call boxes on the side of the freeway go to the CHP. Sorry no Ford power, he's driving the runner back up tonight.

Tape measure duels

05-05-2002, 12:53 AM
The victory dance (86.5") Tommybronco is current shop champion.

Wilson
05-05-2002, 12:59 AM
Here are the rules:
1. Base of tape measure must remain at waist
2. Player holds tape in one hand and "throws" with the other.
3. Extended tape must not contact the ground.
4. If the throw is a potential record breaker, a full 360 degree turn must be made, without the tape collapsing.
5. Longest length wins.

Here to demonstrate the technique is tommybronco.

Alright we have just started the motor. It sounds good and all. It does need a litle tuning to get it to idle smooth but it is reasuring to know that it does run. Back into the shop!

Oh ya we did have the mishap of starting it w/o the oil pressure sensor and we were about a foot away from hosing Toyfamily down with oil. Instead we have a mess on the floor now.
