I just got back from a salvage yard 60 miles from home. I went up hoping to find a front D60! No luck. I have been looking for one of these (GM) for about 3 months now. What he had was a GM D44 from a 76 3/4 ton pickup. He said he would only let it go with the rear axle as a pair. I said weLLLLLL, he said $150.00 for both! SOLD!!! So, I came home with both, but, I just spent $250.00 getting a ford rear D60 into shape, including disc brakes. So question is, D60 or GM 14 bolt. Will my current disc brake setup bolt onto the 14 bolt. They should, GM front rotors, and the caliper bracket isn't welded on yet, just bolted! The ford 60 has 4:10's and both axles I picked up today also have 4:10's. By the way, I'm building a CJ-5 SOA lengthened to about 102" with a GM 350-465-208!!!

About the only bad thing about running a 14 bolt is the gears. You can only go down to 5.13's. Other than that, I really like it. Your current brake set-up will switch over.
BTW: I've got a shaved 14 bolt sitting in my shop with disc brakes and cleaned tubes - no mounts - waiting for gears (5.13's :flipoff2: ) shock mounts and spring perches to be installed.

the 14 bolt is stronger, the 60 is lighter and has better ground clearance. You decide what is more important. They're both great axles, you can't really go wrong.

I am gonna tear into them tommorow in the AM and see what kind of shape they are in! The front 44 needs new calipers and rotors and pads. I will probably tear into the spicer hubs and see what kind of shape the insides are in. May have to consider CTM's while I am at it!!!
