It was nice having her, but TC (that 1/4 elliptic rig) is finally leaving on Monday. We hooked up the IH 1-ton box and got all the little things buttoned up. Even took my Lil B for a ride. Looks like it flexes pretty decent. All the changes are complete and she drives well at 40+ mph.

Later!

Home. Owner is getting about as antsy to get it back as we are to get rid of it. Its a great rig and we are darn proud, but its time for it to go home.

1-ton power steering box from a 1-ton IHC 2WD pick up. Borgeson joints and some custom mounts and its a bolt on.

Ahh.. OK, I have one of those. Must be that thingy on the driver's front of my Travelette that leaks power steering fluid all over the place...

The one with the getting-worn bell-shaped flexible coupler I'm going to have to deal with...

I never thought this box was anything special.

Usually I wouldn't have given it a second though either...but in this case, we were looking for a BIG box with a forward facing pitman arm, this fit the bill and we were able to make the needed mounts for it.

It moves the 42s back and forth like the front end was in the air...no effort - one finger turning. (kinda like when PS came out on the muscle cars, just spin the wheel and the tires will turn ~ no matter how fast you're going.

The rear 1/4's shouldn't be sloping, it looks fine to me. And thanks i did that bob job for Snoopy, man oh man that truck had a lot of rust and alot of Bondo on it, the 1/4's avaraged 1/4" over the whole thing, but i do have to say that existing bondo kept the warpage down when i welded it up. The 1/4's or 2"s shorter than the front fenders i took 18"s off.

Did you take 18in off first than reweld the rear pillars in place?
Did you fold the ends in & over like from the factory to weld the pillars & endcaps back on,( I think they call it a flange)? Pretty much what I expect from mine when it gets done. I really dont want to mount my fuel cell inside the truck tho, its my biggest & main concern.

Sloping? You realize that it is flexed about 24" right?

REDDMANIAC, i cut at the end cap flang and then measured 18" and the cut there, i only cut the outside skid first, and then cut the corners inside and outside from the floors, spot welded them to the inner and outer 1/4's and then cut the floor to match, put the tailgate back on and made sure everything matched and then finsihed welding them up. do all the sheet metal fist and then the frame, i built a new rear floor mount and then cut the frame and remounted the from cross member, bolted it up and then some fibergalls filler, lightwieght filler, and then 2 coats of Polyester primer. Personally i would try to build a new tank and mount it in the factory space, thats my plan with my Terra, i only took 8" off of it and i love the new departure angle but the fuel cell is a pain in the butt, so soon its getting a new custom built tank for the stock location.

I'll have to check. I'm sure he'll be back for this and that. I'll get pictures then.
