Mom just bought a new to her 2000 cherokee and is looking to sell her 93 YJ thats got 165K on it, I checked out the Kelly Blue Book site (www.kbb.com) and their price still seemed low.

Can ya guys help me out? Im just looking for a rough price for it.

Heres what its got
242 inline 6 (4.0)
power steering, auto, 165k on the odometer, soft top, body is in fair to good condition ( tailgate is rusting out, but no other blemishes on entire vehicle) paint is still good, top is good, sound bar, half doors with glass slider uppers, chrome grill :flipoff2: No Major Body Damage, frame is straight as an arrow, No major accidents, Clean Title, Smog Certificate.

What its had done
Complete Brake overhaul, from master cylinder to the rotors, Rebuilt trans within the last 5 years, Major oil system repair, New u-joints and seals on front axle, New Exhaust from the manifold back, top has been resewn, New steering shaft replaced and installed by Jeep, All work has been documented, New tires within last year, new radiator within the last two years.

Problems
Has weak acceleration, Top is leaky at windshield, tailgate is rusting out at the bottom, but can be repaired, Rough Idle in hot weather.

SO what do you guys think? Blue book said 5200, but with all the major work thats been done, I told Mi mama start at 6300, how does that sound?

You can start where you like, but from the list of what you call "major repairs"....... I call those a basic necessity to stay on the road.

I haven't really been paying attention to the used car market lately, but I know the used car market was horrible as of two months ago. I worked at a dealership up to then and to put in perspective they usually purchased about 50 cars at auction. The last month I was there they only bought two. They were the largest dealership in the southwest too, so it wasn't some small outfit. The 0% financing is really hurting the used market. No one wants a used one if they can get 0% on a new one. That being said, I wouldn't expect to get much over book for it. At least she didn't trade it in though.

Is that high or low book?
The stuff that has been done is neccisary(sp?) maintence in the ownership of said jeep.
So I don't think you can count those.

you can try www.nada.com for a second opinion, but I wouldn't expect over book unless you find a great buyer.

Ok I am not trying to flame you here but that rig sounds like a POS. I think it sounds like a 2500 to 3500 dollar rig. There is alot to do and with that many miles it is worthless unless someone plans on an engine swap. So I think it is a prime candidate for a trail rig builder with a drivetrain swap. If she wants to get her money back take all the acc. off it and sell them separate. Good luck. By the way this is my idea of what the market would bare in the NW.

with this thing at 165k on the odo, that motor is TIRED. rebuild
time. NADA doesn't usually go over that type of general condition.
all that other crap you listed is routine maint..... brakes, trans,
steering, etc.....

she'll be lucky to 4500 for it I would guess..... think about it,
that jeep has rust, it's 9 years old already, it leaks, 165k, and poor engine performance to boot..... I'd say 3500 it'll go
fairly quick. much more than that and she'll just keep re-listing it.......... that would be for San Jose bay area values...............

Look in your local paper and the local "AutoTrader". See what
a similar vehicle is being priced at. This gives you a decent idea
of the local pricing. Pricing for any vehicle varies widely with area.

I bet the reason that Jeep idles rough and has poor power is because the injectors are filthy. Usually a poorly maintained 4.0 will last at least 200kmi. As far as the rust, where did it come from? I have never seen a rusted YJ here in Cali, unless it was within blocks of the Ocean. You have to take into consideration the overall condition before you determine the value. Personally, I think the jeep is in below average condition. I would not expect to get too much out of it.:(
