: Super 30
danoh83 09-12-2006, 12:47 PM Anyone have any experience with the super 30 kit? Just want to know if it is worth it since they include an arb locker. I am running 33s but plan on getting 35s. Just wondering how well it will hold up, or if will break it. I got a 44 in the rear, will the super 30 be just as strong?
Rontheman13 09-12-2006, 01:32 PM It will hold up to 35 fine. I run a HP dana 30 with a super 30 and ctms. Have ran carnage no problems.
Po' riggity 09-12-2006, 01:36 PM Super 30 should hold up to that fine. I run 35's on a stock D30 with no problems.. just upgraded to the 297x joints and called it a day.. also ditched the vaccum disco.

i run 35" boggers and have a set of 27 spline chromo shafts with ctm's and have had no issues with breakage....
Nordic1 09-12-2006, 02:38 PM I ran 35" MT/Rs on a dana 30 with 4.56s open, alloy inners, welded u-joints and timken hubs (oem replacements)... I did not have any problems. If you were to get more agressive tires like swampers or if you were to throw a locker in there, then I would say you might have some issues but a stock 30 can take 35"s n prblem.
Nordic1 09-12-2006, 02:40 PM PS: I wouldn't get a super 30 kit... if you ever broke a shaft, you'd pretty much be looking at super expensive 1 off replacements (as in I don't think there are any 30 spline shafts that are the same lengths as the 30 shafts). If you run stock 27 splne shafts, you could pick up replacement shafts anywhere for next to nothing.
At the very most... if you are dead set on your dana 30 and getting alloys then get some sup. Evo's or Alloy USA's alloys and call it good.
Handful of Cream 09-12-2006, 04:48 PM Don't do it!
I ran one for a year and went through two ring gears. This Super 30 kit was in a 90' XJ with a HP30 4:10 gears and 35" MT Baja Claws. The kit came with the bigger style joints.
I guess the ring and pinion is the weak link? Or anything with the word "super" in it is just :rainbow:
just my .02
danoh83 09-12-2006, 04:51 PM Basically i am looking at the most inexpensive way to put selectable locker in the front without worrying about breaking anything. I am pretty sure i will break a stock 30 with a locker.

super 30 with CTMs, BEEFY ring gear (heat treated and chryoed) and timken hubs. That's about as beefy as it gets
KiGrind 09-12-2006, 08:46 PM I've got a guy selling me a complete set of stock shafts with joints and everything for $50, right now I think thats a good enough price to just save my money for a d44 or 60 instead of the super 30.
I know this isn't an option for most, but if I can't do it in the future I'm also going to invest in the super 30 but just want shafts no locker.
danoh83 09-12-2006, 09:27 PM Ideally i would like to put a dana 44 in the front, unfortunately the only one that would bolt in would be from the factory for a rubicon (that i know of). I dont really have the fabrication skills to get one from a wagoneer in the junkyard and make it fit, plus they are wider than the 30. So i figured a locked super 30 would be the next best thing.
desertsport 09-12-2006, 11:33 PM Why dont you save some money for a month, read on the waggy swap a lot for a month, and swap in a waggy front, with arb and chromo shafts.

Read up on the waggy swap and dana 30 bracketry... make friends with somebody with a welder (you'd be suprised how many people can hook it up on that sort of thing) and buy brackets from people like Ruff Stuff, Poly Performance and Balistic Fab. Clean up the axle yourself, mark where everything goes and have your buddy buzz everything on for you.
It's not FAB work... it's more like checking alot of measurments
VTJeepCJ84 09-13-2006, 10:29 AM I run 27 spline cromo shafts and yukon cromo joints, with a detroit and 35 boggers and an AMC 360. works great as long as i don't try and pull someone while in reverse, the ring gears don't hold up to that. nice thing about the 27 splines if i break one i can put a stock shaft in to get me home if need be. although i have discovered that the ring gear is the weakest link.
danoh83 09-13-2006, 01:37 PM What about just buying warn locking hub conversion and throwing in a lock right or arb?
