I have a rubicon long arm kit on my tj. After 2 failed attempts routing the exhaust at a 1/2a$$ shop (Merlin's Muffler) in dallas, I decided to cut the exhaust at the hanger behind the muffler. I wish I would have taken a pic of it. It was pretty funny, the thing ran about six inches past my rear bumper the second time they did it. I would have made them do it a third time, but I had to load it up to move down here the next day. Anyway, it seemed to work fine until today. Heard a popping noise, after looking noticed that the heat from the muffler melted my rear shock bushing. Will a turn down solve this problem? The point where it is cut is at least 18" from that bushing.
Also, driving home tonite I noticed that my dash lights would turn off, then I'd hit a bump or go up an incline and they would come back on. Then I turned the lights off and the parking lights would not turn off. Weird thing is I pulled the fuse and they still stayed on. The fuse was blown too  . Pulled the main fuse and that shut em off. I was looking at the wiring back there. The connection looks a little screwed up but not bad enough to cause it to short out. Anyone have any ideas on this or have a similar experience (not likely probably)? I don't know whether these problems are related or not? I haven't driven it at night for quite a while, so the lights could have been screwed up for a while.
TIA
You are definitely going to want to get the exhaust routed out the back or side. Down pipe might help a little. Not sure on your headlight problem.
Check out this thread, melting your gas tank could also be an issue.

Damn! I just read that post. That is some scary stuff. I have actually been smelling gas after driving it a while. Thanks for pointing this out for me. I am worried about even driving it to the exhaust shop. Sucks too, cause my jeep on the third floor of the parking garage right now. I don't see any way that I could have it towed out of here since it is about 4 inches from the ceiling right now. Crap. Guess this is when the fuel cell gets done.

Thanks. I actually took pics from the rockcrawler write-up to them when I had it done. They obviously didn't pay any attention to it. Merlin can suck a fat one. I will be calling them when I get this done and getting my money back. This is bs, especially if I have to end up replacing my fuel tank because of it. I just went out and checked it and the tank seems ok. There is a seam around the middle that I am worried may be leaking. Could this be a point where it could leak...are there two sections joined in the middle or is the tank one piece?

Chico-
There's a custom exhaust place about 1/2 mile from my place. They did mine for $150 with a new flowmaster. Had it done in a couple hours. If you are really that worried about driving I guess we could load it up on my trailer and haul it there. Then once it's fixed you come over and help me bleed these 1-ton brakes that I got all hooked up today. I just rerouted the hard line under the frame in front for about 4 extra inches of length, so I'm not buying any new ones. Got the Ford E350 master cylinder installed also, bled it, and it's ready to go. I also got all the brake-hose springs hooked up today also.
