: pulling head off.....
yardbird 04-28-2002, 12:41 AM I am pulling the head off to replace the head gaskrt tomorrow, and I was wondering if anyone has ever mad their head milled down for more compression, or if anyone has had their head ported or plished...any gains in this area? I looked on the ih8mud site and saw nothing dealing with this, I am up for suggestions, I am trying to get as much power out of my 2F as possible.....I am thinking of a new camshaft and possibly new pistons( I will find out tomorrow when I pull the head if I am goining to go that far). Any one heard of anything with rockers? I have seen hydraulic lifters, but not for the 2F.:trooper:
yardbird 04-28-2002, 12:44 AM I am A bartender and just got out of work, so that is why there are so many f-ups on the spelling on my thread sorry, I will stop hitting the mad dog 20/20 before I post again

What bar? I grew up in Va Bch!! Lived in the ghetto of Princess Ann Plaza. Spent many nights wasting brain cells at the place below. I've seen many folks thrown through the front window here. My favorite was the sailor that got the shit kicked out of him by 2 women and tossed through the glass!! http://www.vabeach.com/chichos/main.jpg
Oh, I had my head milled a little by my machinist for my rebuild. Only just enough eliminate any warpage. Rebuild is still underway, awaiting another camshaft, so no results for you.
And another oh, welcome newbie!!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
yardbird 04-28-2002, 10:51 AM Yea I have done my tour of duty at the "block" down on Atlantic Ave. The last one I worked at down there was The Attic. I worked at the Edge in Norfolk for a while, and Mad Mikes which both were at ODU. I now work in a nicer place where we don't get a lot of fights...actually not a one in three years! It is called Kincaids and it is in downtown Norfolk. No happy hours and the most expensive shot is are you ready for this...$330.00 per one ounce shot. It is Macallan 1946 and we actually sold out of it a couple of months ago. Some people just have too much money and no common sense.

4400 Campus Club and Friar Tucks? Gone now? Kingshead (?) Inn - used to see Bruce Hornsby there all the time!
Hell, almost all of my old watering holes are probably gone now, I left almost 17 yrs ago.

Yikes!!
yardbird 04-28-2002, 11:49 AM Yea they are all leveled due to the expansion of ODU. They tore down everything from41st street to the Burger king on 48th street and as deep as one block from Colley ave. They are building a new Convocation center for the B-Ball teams. They even put in a damn monorail!!! It's a commuter school for gods sake why do they need a monorail? That is where all of my tuition money went! And with all of the Bars and Clubs torn down the DUI and accident rate has gone way up here. I guees ODU thought they would have higer student retention if they got rid of the bars, it is hard to keep them if they keep getting into accidents! Oh well enough venting about Over Dose University. Got any tips on geting some head bolts loose? I took of my exhaust...was going to replace it anyway, and cut a two foot piece of to slip over my ratchet, but the damn bolt won't budge. I am ready for dynamite!

I used PB blaster and a 4-5 ft breaker bar, but I had my engine out when I took mine off!

Sorry about the socket, hope it was a Craftsman. ;)
Thre are two ways to post a picture. The first way is to use the IMG coding with a URL of the picture you want to post like this:

the other way is to help fund the POR website and get your star so you can upload files like this:
yardbird 04-30-2002, 12:09 AM Sean,
I finally got the damn thing off!!! It was a breeze once I got that bolt undone. Man that head is heavy as hell! Ever heard of an aluminum replacement?
Thanks for the welcome by the way.
I grew up right around the corner from you. I grew up in Kings Grant aka the Grunt. I went to old First Colonial. Did you go to Princess Anne?
Well, back to work. not sure if I am going to replace the pistons or rings yet. I will see in the next couple of days. Thanks again for the tips.

Yep, Class of 79. When were you at FC, did you know any of the Trafton's?? My sister lived over in Kings Grant for awhile. On the creek to where that strip mall is on Va Beach Blvd and Lynnhaven Rd. We used to hit golf balls off the back deck into the parking lot.

Have fun. I'm gonna yank my first birfs today, out of my donor axle and dissaemble my first knuckles in preperation of assembling my SO front axle!! Then off to Moab tomorrow morning!!
later
yardbird 05-04-2002, 01:57 PM Yea it was a combo of PB blaster, a 4' breaker bar that I bought from Home Depot, and a lot of elbow grease(which is hard due to the fact that my right hand is still recovering from a crush fracture). I took the head to the Head Shop, and they are porting and polishing it, along with new valves and springs. I have taken the pushrod cover off, and I am going to replace the cam this week with the Man-A-Fre RV grind billet cam and lifters. Like I said before trying to make a race car out of a tractor! I got the engine degreased, primered, and painted (Ford Tractor blue) so I can see if there are any leaks later down the road. Oh well, it's fun I am learning a lot as I go, and it keeps me off the streets..my roomate should take this up, I had to pick him up from the drunk tank this morning(he drives a TJ wrangler...and I don't want to understand that.)
I had friends that had older brothers that went to PA, the Robusto's. I think they would have been there then. I was at FC in the early 90's, my brother was there in the mid 80's.
Yea I know where you are talking about with the neighborhood of your sister. We used to hang out all over that area as kids.
