Last set of pics are up on my site. It was a cold and windy day so we didn't spend much time out of the vehicles. Of course you'd never guess it was cold enough to snow by looking at our trip lead Rick, he was perfectly happy in his t-shirt and shorts

Rick crab walking a notch.

Onboard welder, some assembly required.

Double Whammy.. Success.... Tim and Erik made it.

This is all the farther I got, not enough hp to crawl it.

GPS track overlaid on a 3d map. We covered some serious ground in one day.

Nice shots...the welder shot is boonie fixing at its finest!

The map is really cool. How did you do that? I would like to be able to do that for a project at work.

Whats the wheelbase of the black and green rig?

in a word: AWESOME!!!!!

puts my pics to shame. :(

hopefully I'll have some pics of my very first roll-over/flop on the side in the next few days. To make it worse, I rolled in a bog hole - which made for a rather interesting recovery. not to mention trying to find all my tools and spares in the slushy mud *LOL*

Erik's rig is approx 98". The map was made by importing a gps track into Topo USA V3.0. Then you select 3d mode and you can tilt'swivel the terrain however you want.

Thanks for the info...my rig is right at 98.5, how does that seem to work in his zuk? It looks longer than 98.

His Zuk looks long because there's a V-8 under the stretched hood. Erik was thrilled with his rig at Moab. He had done some of those trails in an XJ and in his Zuk when it was just spring over. Around here the only thing he would like is some more ground clearance, he was talking taller tires yesterday but it does pretty good with the 36's he's running now.

There are more details and pictures on my website. I carry some 6013 3/32 welding rod and some 1/16 welding rods. You really need 3 batteries to get good penetration so I may install a second battery just for that purpose. Cast parts are difficult to weld so I wouldn't trust the weld. I have welded a pitman arm in the field, broke on the arm, also welded a rod end with good results. I also carry some scraps of c channel, steel bar, tubing, etc to reinfoce breaks. Out of 4 welding jobs done with batteries, 2 survived all the way out of the trail, your results may vary, don't try this at home and no animals were harmed during the welding :D
