Well, I thought I was gonna get a travelall but that deal fell through.

It's getting close to moving time and I have to alter my plans, Looks like I'll be pulling a small trailer with my scout, unless I decide to get a truck & tow Clyde behind that. a trailer is cheaper though.

so i'll have to connect the bumper and the frame, this is freehand off the top of my head:

Option B is the strongest (straight line) but is permament and requires the most work

Option A should work, and still allow removal of the bumper when i replace it.

Option C is also permament, but should be easy to install, and i can cut it off when I have to.

I'm leaning towards C. comments? ideas? opinions?

I towed the biggest uhaul tailer that uhaul has over 3000 miles on a stock scout bumper....no problems. the trailer was filled with everything I could fit from a 3bd room house!

Joe, why don't you just do it right with a proper Frame mount hitch?!?!

Buy a used one, bolt it on. Then when your done, pull it off if you don't want it and sell it again for what you bought it for.....

Or see if someone has one kicking around they could loan you....

seems better to me than rigging something up or slapping something together you may not want later?!?!

Didn't think of that, the biggest question is will my current bumper interfere with it.

I'll see if Howard stocks them.

I plan to run 3/8" strap from the top and bottom of the main frame rails to a peiece of 2.5" .250 square tube that will sit vertical with flanges for mounting the bumper. I will also running a couple of short beads in additional to the bolts. From the 2.5" I'll add flanges for the mounting of the bumper. I'll be able to easily unbolt the main portion of the bumper, but not the mounting pieces without a little grinding. Thus the bumper will be pulling and lifting on the main frame rails not the rear member.

If it is one of our bumpers then the rear mounts are already lined up to the frame rails. There are 2 bolt holes (big enough for 1/2" or higher bolts) that go through the frame about 4 and 7" back from the crossmember. Get some 1/4" angle steel and weld it to the bumper, making it long enough to get both holes. Insert bolts (drill holes of course) and tighten. We sell the frame extensions if you need them. It should take you about 30 minutes time to install them.

I have a stock(?) receiver hitch that hugs the contour of the gas tank that I would give someone, but its to heavy to ship probably.
