Do you need a special permit to use a colman lantern, or Mr heater type device on the trail? Is it legal to use this time of year? If I need a permit can I get it from the county I am from or does it have to be from there? Thanks

You have to watch the signs on the road going up -- USFS types, or stop at the Ranger Station there past Ice House. Or go online (Eldorado National Forest web site) and read the latest FIRE RESTRICTIONS.

usually, propane is fine. But always check first.

Yes you need a permit, a campfire permit which you can get many places.

At this time there are no wood or charcoal fires. Several other things are also prohibited right now, but with a campfire permit you can use gas of propane stoves and heaters as long as the stage restriction allow for it.
