I just pick up a TH350 with the Downey 1" Cruiser adapter from a friend. He keep the torque converter for his and doesn't know what stall RPM it is. What do you auto guys run, any part number? I'll be running 4.11 and 35 or 36 but plan on 4.88 down the road. And are you guy able to make the kick down cable work?

you probably want to run somewhere around 1700-1800 stall. this will still give you some compression braking but will also allow you to bring the engine up slowly for creeping around in the rocks. the tv cable is really easy to hook up. go to your local wrecking yard and score a factory bracket, then get yourself a new cable and you're in business. remember to attach the cable at the trans end first and it's much easier to do it with the popan off. sometimes, that's the only way to do it.
if you need a converter, cable or pan gasket and filter, let me know. i work for a trans parts distributor and can hook you up.:smokin:

Orangefj45-thanks, I will be in need of those things. I'll have to round up so cash first but I'll be in touch. I'll kick you down that box of 70's 4x mags for the help.
FJ40mon- Thanks any way. I had to trade my mint k-line soft top for this tranny and adapter. The Downey 1" adapter is really trick.
Sounds like my setup! Have you actually seen this work in your friends rig? The reason I ask, I bought an adapter about 15 years ago from a machine shop (I think it was called Strauski??) in LA. When it showed up (finally) it wasn't complete, and had "Downey" on it. I figured the guy was trying to sell some stuff direct to make more $$. Couldn't get him to send me the rest, so I called Downey to see if they had the other parts that I could purchase. It turns out they had rejected the adapters because the gear would howl (something about the gear not being shaved). They sent me what I was missing for a fee, and after all the BS of doing the swap, they were right about the noise. My 40 sounded like it had a jet turbine engine. No satisfaction from Strauski, he stopped even answering the phone. So I went AA and got their 1 1/2" adapter (notice it is thicker). Then had to mouse the rear mount to get it all to fit.
So, I hope yours is a current issue of Downey's adapter

Thats very good to know. His T-case screamed like hell. He had it rebuilt still made noise. When I pulled the case out the gears had wear which would cause the noise but know I'm wondering if that was mostly the adapter. He bought the cruizer a few years ago and it was already built and the pervious own had it a long time. I'm think that this is an early set up. Do you know if the had the same part # has the new one? I'm not sure what you mean about the gear being shaved. I have a main shaft that plugs into the output shaft of the tranny and goes through the stock drive gear and pto gear. So I'm use my matching gears in the case. I believe the rear output of the tranny is also a Downey shaft. Does that like yours? Did Downey say they would make it right for you? How might I tell if I have the current issue.
