I want to build up a narrowed 59 inch rear 60 FF with 5x5.5 and rear discs. I can get whole axle assys for 50 each at the local pick& pull, so initial cost isn't much of a problem. What I am now thinking about is using a 60 centersection and redrilled axle shafts with 14 bolt axle tubes and hubs.
My logic is that rear disc setup will be cheaper with this, and if I ever need to go wider I can get a few inches by machining and swapping in a set of 14 bolt pickup hubs to replace the dually hubs I would start out with.

I really don't want the weight of a 14 bolt, and must use a ARB or other selectable locker.

What do you guys think? any other suggestions?

I got one of what your talking about in the barn, but it's a 8 lugger, still weighs a ton. we looked into machining the 14 bolt hubs for a 6 lug and it looked feasable, but theres not much weight savings except for what you turn off.

just find a old international 1/2 ton that had a tow package!
they had a 60 diff with semi floater... there allready 5 on 5 1/2 and I`m just going to use scout disks and make hangers for the calipers... all I have found are 66" wide so there well be lots of meat to respline and wack the tubs.... the one I`m doing cost me $30 as a core and I might have $150 by the time I`m done with new brakes :flipoff2:

P.S. some ford trucks used a dana 60 with 5 on 5 1/2 .... I think it was in the late 60`s into the early 70`s... If you need more info
just ask.

if you want a full float just machine down some front spindles and run front hubs and use 14 bolt axles to machine down and respline both ends ,,, then you have locking hubs front and back... just think you can unlock one for running on side hills and still drive the other one .... :rasta: Why buy a locker when you can weld your dif and just run one side on the street :flipoff2:
