My cold duck jumps out of gear when ever I use any type of compression brakeing. I did a couple of searches and did not come up with a whole lot of info, other than someone (sorry I don't remember who) mentioning shifter play as being the cause, so to that end I reworked the linkage to make sure that there is no bind anywhere in it's range of movement. Well, I tested it on the road today and it is still doing it, so has anyone had to deal with this or does anyone have any other ideas?
here are some vehicle specs that might be helpful: 70 bronco, 351w, np435, cold duck, twin stick dana 20.
Is it the Cold Duck gear reduction box or the Transfer case that is jumping out of gear?
You may end up having to just pull the inspection cover off of the boxes and have a budy work the shifters and look to see that the sliders are engageing the gears fully.

I agree. A common problem that causes this is a bent shift fork. Mine would pop out of 4-LO.

It is just the cold duck box that is jumping out of gear, and the external part of the shift rail appears to be straight, and it also seems to move in and out of the case the same distance as the two shift rails on the dana 20. I am going to check out the detent ball and spring but I don't think that is the problem because there is a definite "feel" when it does go into gear.
Oh, and just in case it is important, it has only been jumping out of it's high range when driving around town.

the input, and sliding gear get worn where they engage, creating a "ramp" effect, causing this probelem, when you apply power they force it out of gear.

that sounds like what it is doing to me, now that I have thought about it. Is there any fix for this other than replacing the worn parts??
