Alright im a jeep guy but i got ford axles and i have a question about my Dana 44. The Dana 44 came out of a F250 Highboy Ranger edition with a 390 in it. The dana 44 is a Low Pinion HD 8 lug with the 2 3/4 in Axle tubes, 4.10 gears, open knuckles, disc brakes also and a power assist ram. Well i need new u joints for the axle shafts and im not sure what year the truck was that it came out of and there are quite a few choices i have, the old ujoints were seized in and were mangled when i took them out but the most i know about them are that they have the inside locking ring. Can anyone tell me how to find the year truck this was or have any recomondation on what axle joint i should need.

There should be a axle part number stamped somewhere near the pumpkin. If you can find that you can do a search on Dana Spicer and figure out what year it came off of. There should only be one size ball joint for the dana 44 axles. I would call bronco graveyard.

Spicer part # 5-760X should be the one you need. It's probably a 76 axle.

just take the little steel tab off the diff cover and take it to the local part store, they will tell you what year it is and get you the parts

1976 was the first year for disk brakes. 76 or 77. Late 77s Ford changed to HP.

You've a Ford F250 axle ran from 1976-1977.5.
Here is your answer 5-297x (Spicer number, beware the stores that can't figure out what to sell you with this...)
Check my web page for pictures of this axle
