I've seen a few rigs that have run tractor tires ranging from stock size to 48" Is anyone on Pirate running tractor tires? Which design is best? Any pics of rigs on agricultual tires?

The tire on the left, in the picture above, is a 44.6 x 18.4 - 16.1 Goodyear Traction Sure Grip. The other is a 44 x 18.5 - 15 Interco Super Swamper TSL.

The Goodyear terra tire has an advertised tread depth of 50/32, (1.5625") a section width of 18.4" and an approximate weight of 135 lbs.

The 44" Super Swamper has an advertised tread depth of 27/32, (0.8440") a section width of 17.5" and an approximate weight of 120 lbs.

Im running these tires on my 76 Chevy, and I have yet to wheel them. I have no doubt that they will work better than a bogger in the mud. Suck on the street though. Not legal for highway use.

good for mud, no good for rocks. tractor tires are STIFF. theyre designed to carry literally tons of weight. another thing is that on tractor wheels you cant really air down because not much holds them on as far as the bead. but again, if your boggin only go for it.

Sorry for the huge pic, but it helps you appreciate how deep the tread on these things are.

as far as bead retention goes, most people who are serious about wheelin' are going to bead locks any way and Scott at Rockstomper.com makes beadlocks for 16.1" rims. I was thinking about welding a small piece of flat bar on the inside bead to make a safety bead of sorts, and then fab up some regular beadlocks for the outside bead.:smokin:

Im not done with this truck yet, but here is a pic of what it will look like with the terra's
