: The most commonlay asked question
greenfox 09-17-2006, 08:31 PM I get asked this question about once a week, "What birfield do I have in my landcruiser". So today I was cleaning my garage and this is what I found. From left to right the big one is a fj80 91 on up, 89/75 fine spline disc brake, 75/68 corse spline drum brake, 67 ball & claw drum brake, And yes I do carry all of them for trail spares:flipoff2:
fj40charles 09-17-2006, 08:53 PM The birfields don't look to me like a, "most commonlay":flipoff2:

Your missing two... the 9/75-1/79' birf is different than the 1/79'-1/90' (easily adaptable) and there are at least two different 80 series birfs, ABS tone ring, etc. ;)
smurfblue40 09-17-2006, 10:53 PM A ball & claw trail spare ???
orangefj45 09-18-2006, 06:15 AM heck yeah, for those times when we're gettin it in the 45 pickups!

65SWB45 09-19-2006, 10:04 PM I was also telling Phil on Saturday about the 'thicker' drum brake birf, the one made from 11/72 thru 8 of 75. It is noticably thicker on the flats than the 68-71 model.
That brings us up to 7 models.:)
AND you forgot the fine spline ball and claw axle.:p

I'll have to look through my collection and see what I've got...
(didn't know there where different coarse splines)

Fine spline ball joint front axles offered in foreign market [limited US availability] from 1968 thru 7 of 71 as I recall. One of my old cruiser buddies runs them in his 69 with an ARB.
Every once in a while I still get calls for them. :shaking:

Hmmm... I learn something new everyday, I had never heard of a FS ball/claw
I have seen the early drum birf differences, though the picture really illustrates how different they are.
Anyone have a pic of a fine-spline ball/claw?
