Ran into a local shop owner today and of course got to talking about cruisers. I told him I'd been thinking about picking up a 60 to replace my 40 (hope you like it Scott) but didn't really want to fork out that much $ right after paying my taxes.

Anyhow, he told me he just picked up an 88 FJ60 that some yo-yo slid sideways into a snow bank and munched the pass. fender, front door, and the rocker but he said he'd give me another fender and door. Asking price, $2500. It's got 170k on it, 3F w/ auto, clean title, no major leaks underneath but haven't run it yet. All in all, it looks pretty clean and once the fender and door are replaced and painted, it should be good to go. What am I missing, sounds way to good to be true? Any feedback?

BTW, the rocker rash isn't a big deal as it'd be SOA, SR, and on 37 or 38's. Just adds to the charm of a rig.

For $2500, if there is something wrong with it, you could afford to fix it. Make sure the auto tranny is in good shape (shifts right and such) and that the 4wd works. Personally, I think the price people have been asking for fj60s and fj62s latey is FUCKING OUTRAGOUS. $2500 for a truck that has 170K and is 14 years old is about right. I have seen 62s with over 150K that people want $8-10K for. WTF? I dont care how great the body is. I know it is a cruiser, but come on. I havent owned a fj62, but I have a fj60, an fj40 and just got a fzj80. Did they put gold in the fj62s or something. ANyhow, just a rant, sounds like a good deal.

i picked up my 88 fj62 for less than a grand, had 180k on the clock and had been roller pretty hard. i did a soa and cut the front fenders to clear 38.5 sxs. i put in a set of 5.29s and a lock rite in the front and a welded rear. other than that its stock. i have poped 1 birf and lost a rear axle because the c clip end broke off[still haven't figured that one out yet]. the motor is not much on power but has worked great, i have had it flat on the floor climbing a few times. but that was at 11k and 13k feet altitude. i can spin all four tires on big climbs at lower altitudes. it has turned out to be a hell of a good family trail rig. i have 2500 or so in it now and its been to many trails and done great. but it's still a dog on the road, lots of down shifting and shitty miliage. mike

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm gonna go for it. I'm new to the 60 arena as I've only owned 40's. Eventually, it'll get an injected 350 w/ a 4L80 or 700R4 so I'm not to worried about it being a dog for a while. It'll be a DD so I need to keep it semi legal but it'll still be set up to have fun.
