1) SEND LETTERS ASAP - Action Required

We need more letters sent in ASAP
It is extremely critical that we have many letters sent to legislators, the Governor, Resource Staff and the CCC. We are losing the beach!

Below is a letter from San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors Mike Ryan.

April 23, 2002
From the Office of
Fifth District Supervisor
Mike Ryan
San Luis Obispo County

The Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreational Area is being threatened by closure of more of the beach. Your voice is needed to keep access to the beach!

Presently, 1 mile of the beach has been fenced off to protect the nesting area of the Snowy Plover. A contractor was hired this year to remove predators, in this case the Shrike, from the area. Instead of waiting for the results of this predator control, the Coastal Commission may take a precautionary approach and close another 1 1/2 miles of the beach. This will result in a reduction of of campers and vehicles having access to the beach. This issue will be discussed at a Coastal Commission meeting scheduled for the week of May 6-10 in Santa Rosa, California.

Call your elected officials. Let them know you do not like the direction the Coastal Commission is taking! The commissioners can be changed. Call your state assemblyman and senator and ask them why they are allowing the Coastal Commission to close this beach. The contact information can be found in the government pages of your phone book, or on the internet.

Please Make your voice be heard before it is to late. Cal today, you can make a difference.

Sincerely,
Mike Ryan
Fifth District Supervisor
San Luis Obispo County

(707) 523-7555.
We want 1000's of people to show up in support of State Parks and to show support to the Friends of Oceano Dunes members who will present our case.
We have chartered buses to transport people from the Central Valley and from the Oceano area. For more information, please contact Gene Schroeder at gene@oceanodunes.org or by calling 805-788-4926.

3) CLOSING COMMENTS

We need your financial contributions to fight this fight in court. Lawyers cost money, and we are anticipating a $200,000 lawsuit. PLEASE DONATE!!!

If we back down now, we will continue to lose more and more.

Friends of Oceano Dunes said from the early beginning that we will not compromise…enough is enough! We are asking you to continue to support us and get active in this fight. We need to continue to raise funds to pay the attorneys, lobbyists and future biologists.

Thanks to all who have donaed their time and money.
Please feel free to donate on-line at: http://www.oceanodunes.org/donate.asp
