Looking to swap front and Rear Dana 44 into TJ. currently D30 and D35c. I6 Ax15 And 231. So ? what is best to use. ie closest in width and proper drop and centering. Also 5 on 5.5 is what I would like but like and get are different I know. I've done searches here JU:rainbow: and on the web and come up with Dana 44 stuff for YJ easy swaps but very little for TJ.
Thanks for the help.

Most swaps that will work for a YJ will work for a TJ. The difference being that you have to weld control arm mounts to the new axle. Other than the links the stock axles are the similar on the two models of Jeeps.
Wagoneer and scout are close to the same width and are a common swap.

The only thing I can think of that might have the brackets you need is an EB front. It's probably not a straight bolt in either, but it's a good width & set up for coils.

Not to sound :rainbow: , but I think RE sells all the bracketry needed to do put a 44 in a TJ. Not that I've ever done it, but if I was going to do it, I'd make some sort of jig that bolts to all the stuff on your 30 (after it is removed from the Jeep) and locates it relative to some fixed point on the axle that doesn't change between the 30 and 44 (or if it DOES change, make sure that's accounted for....) Then, I'd use the jig to locate the new bracketry on the 44 and weld 'er up.
Good luck,

I just did a front 44 swap into my TJ. I used the RE brackets with out a jig, just a lot of time and an angle finder and a tape. the only problem I had was the upper control arm brackets you need to make sure that you have the right angle to the control arms if I remember it is around 15-20 deg to the outside. If you want you can see some pics of the work at

good luck It isn't really that hard, just a lot of time.
