Say a guy was grinding a sm420 with a 3speed l/c case for d-line clearance, and they were grinding and went all the way through, Could a guy weld a patch on the tranny housing? Is it cast steel or iron? oh yeah btw .. that brilliant guy that did this was me. Any help would be great. Flame on! Kodi

Yea, no biggie weld away. SM420s dont care about much
They are cast iron, but there wont be any force on the hole so just a hot weld will work fine.

Jb weld would work , but i want a more permanent fix. Can you weld to cast iron? Anything special needed to do this? Thanks

Did you see my first post?
you are just patching a hole, depending on size you could just fill the hole with weld or weld a plate over it.
Welding to cast is no biggie like I said before, especally what you got going there, its not like there is force on what you are your weld there. Weld a plate and be done with it.

I just had my dad's repaired, driveline lost 3 bolts and knocked a hole in the case where it was clearanced. Tried JB Weld failed after a couple of days most not have been cleaned well enough. Took it to the local heavy equipt. repair guy and had it welded up works fine.

I had mine welded and it cracked around the weld, preheated and everything. I guess it cooled too fast. Still works, just drips slow.
