Anyone here put a LT230 into a 93 RR? I've puchased a 88 parts car for the day my 93 RR VCtranfercase dies. When pulling the LT230 out from the 88 any tips or just straight forward? Thanks -Trent

It is well worth your time to make the lifting fixture as described in the FSM.

Keep track of which bolt came from where and put them back from whence they came.

Hang onto the frame mounts, you'll need them when you put it into the '93.

Won't he need to swap the spud (transmission output) shaft as well as the front driveshaft?

I bow to your expertise, just trying to keep these thinks straight in my little head...

LOL! Yes, but he asked if anyone had done the swap-I haven't:D

I was providing removal tips:flipoff2:

So, to clarify. It may be necessary to remove the transmission output shaft from the donor vehcile, along with the front driveshaft and of course, the shifter.

Is that better?

I just swapped a LT230 into a 93 so it is still somewhat fresh in my mind. There might be more parts that you want to save but this is what I can remember off the top of my head.

Front drive shaft

Rear output shaft from transmission (Yours should fit but trust me you will want this just in case)

Passenger side transfer case mount

Emergency brake cable from where it attaches to the e brake to the rear T/C drum

100% of the CDL and high low shifter

Additionally you might want to save the center console since it is made for the LT230 and should have the CDL light and correct opening already

The removal is pretty straightforward but here are a few tips.

unbolt the fan from the front of the motor, disconnect the muffler, drop down the round tube that goes between the frame, remove the transfer case mounts and you should have plenty of room to get the t case in and out. I did that and did not have to mess with the center console or drop the y pipe like the manual states.

If you are doing it by yourself you might find it handy to remove the e-brake drum as it makes it lighter and gives better access to the wires and the bolts on the top of the transfer case.

It is a good idea to replace the transmission output seal and the transfer case input seal while you are at it ;)

These are the same part and are available at NAPA for a fraction of Rover's price.

I did it about 7 years ago, so I might forget the subtle things, but I did it with a floor jack, by myself, without Pauls special aperatus.

Do some checking, but your ZF spud shaft should be fine, as it probably has longer splines while your earlier LT230 only requires the short splines. It goes in your favor. You would need a new spud shaft if you use an old ZF and new LT230.

Get the 230 shift linkage (its a good time to clean and relube it), the frame mount, front drive shaft, and P-brake linkage.

I live in just above Auburn of I80.

I put one in my 92, but basically the same. A transmission jack makes getting the angles to line up much easier. I did a write up, and there were others as well. Check the search for pics and stuff.

I couldn't find your writeup. Do you have the link address? Thanks, -Trent
