Well, I finished installing and bleeding my clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder assembly for my Chevy NV 4500 (external slave) and it works, but only disengages way down around the bottom of the pedal stroke. I half-expected this due to mis-matched size of the Jeep YJ master and the larger Chevy slave.
What clutch master cylinder are you NV4500 guys out there running?
Thanks,
Jake

Good question. I'm using the CJ master/slave, but am a few days from testing. I used the slave with the mounting holes inline with the plunger (vs the offset type).

No kidding.
After driving it around a little it doesn't seem as bad--still, I'd like to eventually change it... Anyone...?

I'm using a Girling MC with a Girling slave.
The petal is just right for me with full engauge at about 30% petal depression and full disengage at about 50% of petal depression.
You want to make sure you setup the MC to have a good, full stroke with little slack at extension but without bottoming out the piston.

Plus you have to have the proper geometry with the slave's rod, the cup in the fork, the fork's pivot and the center line of the release bearing/input shaft all on he same plane.
And you only need enough play in the linkage to allow 1/16" play/rattle off the clutch fingers from the release bearing.
A stiff return spring will ensure the bearing stays off the fingers when the clutch is fully engaged.

Thanks Jaffer,
I'll look into that.

Jaffer,
I am doing my drivetrain swap (into my YJ) next week.
I know what application the slave is for (I have this same slave for my 4500), but what app is the master for?
Do you think it will fit in a YJ (throw etc.)? How much did it cost ya?
I have the little adapter fitting for m Yj master that AA sells, it has a #3 AN (JIC) male end on it, and finding #3 female ends is not easy (believe me).
Also, do you have a close up pic of the arm end of the dlave?
Thanks,
Charly

Here's the URL to the whole write up about my install/conversion ...

I didn't need to make any alterations in this setup changing over from a T-5 bell housing and trannie to a T-150/176 bell housing and a NV4500 with a 1" AA Ford adapter plate.
Eventually, I did lower the slave an inch by making a spacer block to get a better straight-on 'push' on the fork because my slave's rod was tending to push the fork down as well as back.
It's easy to figger out if this needs to be done by watching the linkage work and adjusting the alignment so the fork does not want to jam high or low too much and instead starts pushing on the fork squarely.
I suspect those who are not getting enough throw/disengagment either have
1. loose and/or misaligned linkage
2. not enough 'throw' on the petal for a full stroke on the MC,
3. or an MC too small for the slave cylinder.
