: Where To Get Thick D60 Diff Cover?
Where is the best place to get a D60 thick diff cover without the little ribs between the bolt holes?
Summit has them for $30, but I don't know if they are the thick ones or not. Does anyone have any experience with these or have any suggestions?
GhettoRig 04-29-2002, 09:55 AM EBAY!!! You can usually pick them up for about 20 bills there.
Old Scout 04-29-2002, 09:57 AM Yes the Summit ones are the thick ones! I guess you thought I was trying to mislead you!:flipoff2: E-bay as a ton of them as well. :flipoff2:

I just couldn't tell if they were the thick ones or not. And I really appreciate the info you gave me. :D For $30 with plug and gasket, I will probably go that route since I can have it in a few days? And I guess I can live with the Chorme.....maybe it will scare the rocks away from my diff?????

Do the RC60 covers have a higher fill plug than standard cut 60s (I know the RC44s are higher)?
The Rockslut 04-29-2002, 11:02 AM Just call and ask for a thick cover for a D60 from West Coast. Thats what I got. Regular elevation fill plug.
They come with new bolts and fill plug, in a Dana box.
The Jerk 04-29-2002, 11:15 AM ill ask again, how much from wcd? jiMMy

Pick up a phone and call them you lazy ....., um, never mind, I am on the phone with them now.......
Ford RC60 cover, no ribs, slightly higher fill plug, bolts, gasket.......$18 + tax and shipping. I should have it tomorrow.
Thanks for the number Scout Dude!
The Fleckster 04-29-2002, 12:26 PM Biy thats just a little sigh plug to check fill level i guess. I hope its at least Polycarbonate (bulletproof shit) at the minimum.

Olympic 4x4 in Snohomish Washington has triple thick diff covers (3/8" thick for my dana 60) and they were about $70ish.
The cover is almost 1/2" thick:eek:
twistedmetal 04-29-2002, 05:10 PM They came on most 3/4 ton Ford rear 60's as well. I have 11 of them, but I am going to horde them all just cuz I can.:flipoff2:
But they are only about an 1/8 inch thick, so nothing real special.
Ultim8kaos 04-29-2002, 05:38 PM If you are really interested in a thick, :nuke: proof, guaranteed for life, cover for your diffs try WMS. www.wagonermachine.com
$250 per and worth every penny! Remember quality is not expensive it is priceless. :flipoff2:

MoBlagg 04-29-2002, 07:27 PM I bought a thik one last week from Randys ring and pinion for 13 bucks. I think it was listed as a high pinion 60 cover.

Will two covers fit together very well? 'Cause if they're that cheap I'd buy one for $13, hack it to clear the fill plug and weld 'em together.
FYI......I got my D60 diff cover last night from West Coast Diffs. I ordered it on Monday and I got it on Tuesday.....not bad for fast shipping. It was $13 plus tax and shipping for the diff cover, bolts, and filler plug. The cover is thick and it has no ribs between the holes so you use RTV to seal it. The application is for a Ford front RC60.
I hope this helps someone else out.

I've already got a Ford RC60. I've never seen the "thin" cover, but mine has no ribs between the bolts and you use RTV to seal it. It doesn't seem very thick to me, I'd hate to see a "thin" one. I still don't think my cover (which is apparently the thick version already) is very thick. What's so special about them? Seems to me something more is still needed, this thing will dent if hit very hard.
Lloyd 05-01-2002, 12:31 PM I have a "thin" one. Be happy to trade you if you want a conversation piece. Seems like it's about 18 ga. Has a rubber plug instead of threads.
Ultim8kaos 05-01-2002, 04:55 PM The thick cover isn't and does not hold up to the rocks well at all.
Ask me how I know! :flipoff2:
Steve
Tankota 05-01-2002, 05:01 PM I've got a thin one sitting on the shelf (it should be in the garbage can). It is paper thin and has a rubber plug that says spicer on it for the fill hole. Came out of a late 60s ford van.
Thin covers suck! Just be lucky you don't have one. At least a thick one will be stronger than a thin one....which one would you rather have? I did not buy this just to get a thick cover. I needed one with no ribs between the bolt holse for my rock ring. So if I am going to buy one, why not make it a thick one?
TJBob 05-05-2002, 04:54 AM Alright enough of this vague dialog :flipoff2:
A thin cover is 1/16". I know, I had one.
Most of the "thick" covers sold are 1/8" - whoo hoo. Still sucks.
Who sells a cover > 1/8", so far we have:
Olympic 4x4 - 3/8" (can thickness be confirmed?) - $70
Wagoneer Machine - 1/4" -1/2" - $250 (ouch)
West cost diff - probably 1/8" (can thickness be confirmed?) - $18
Randy's - proabably 1/8" (can thickness be confirmed?) - $13
Anyone ever tried to weld two of the 1/8" covers together? I don't have two to try it on but it may work if you can get the fill plug threads to line up right.
Johncm 05-05-2002, 11:43 AM I have re-enforced thick covers.
The Covers are new with bolts, Ring gear section is RE-enforced with 1/4" X 2 strap. Formed to cntour to the cover. I will paost pics soon.
$75.00
PM me if intrested.
Gozuki 05-05-2002, 12:09 PM There are also some 3/16ths covers made by spicer. I have one on my 60. They are rare, though. I will get the P/N Mon. I also have a 1/8th cover for sale, new, $30 + shipping...
Gozuki 05-05-2002, 12:10 PM If you try to stack 2 , the outer one will have to be completely cut up.

I talked to Olympic 4x4 and that's how they make their $70 heavy duty diff covers. Apparently the chop the bottom half off of 1 or 2 other covers and weld them to one whole cover.
I'm gonna have to grab me some extras and try that out just for kicks. I've got a homemade diff cage (http://home.insight.rr.com/rpark/P5100001.JPG)
Tankota 05-10-2002, 03:24 PM I got one from Oly4x4 and they cut TWO in half and weld them to a complete third one.
