A bunch of guys do this but there is different opinions on how strong that is based on welding to the casting. You might want to look at some examples.

could you post up any pics of your present setup?

i would keep away from welding your ram mount on the diff. i have welded to cast before and works great, but i would find another way. that mount has a large load on it all the time. there is always another way. pics would be easier.
