TNToy 04-29-2002, 10:04 AM This monster was out on the trails here in Memphis with us this weekend. Cut 44" boggers, two 2.5-Ton Rockwell hydro-steering axles (rear steering was a lever btw. the seats) and pinion brakes, built 350 and a coilover/link setup at all 4 corners. this thing made EVERYONE look stupid.

the rest of the pics are located on this page (http://home.off-road.com/~mithrandir/trails/04-28-02/). Some shots of the interior, suspension, and quite a few of it on the trail.
And my one mishap of the day... pulled a 36" TSL off the wheel trying to climb out of a rather deep rut.

Sillyneck 04-29-2002, 11:08 AM hey is that the river bottoms? I used to wheel out there a lot when I lived in germantown :D What a mess...is it sill like pick n pull out there w/ all the stolen trucks?
TheNerple 04-29-2002, 12:10 PM Hey what was that guy running for pinion brake setup? Got any shots of how he mounted it?

Yeah, that's the bottoms, down by Jackson Avenue. The stolen trucks have mostly disappeared, since the police have really cracked down on that...
those things might work great, but damn are they ugly
TNToy 04-29-2002, 12:16 PM I dunno what he was running for the brakes... here's the best shot I have:

And rollmeover, I happen to like the way tube rigs look. But then, I'm a big fan of the Mad Max films. ;)

Yep it's a small world! That's the first rig I've seen from that area that's not a stock z71 or an old narrow track CJ w/ 18+ inches of lift and 8" back spacing wheels w/ 33" mudders :D
How's the progress on built rigs in that area? What are the new trends and what not? My buddy over in east memphis is building a flat fender slowly. It should be cool but it seems like the wrecking yards are such a b!tch to deal with that it's almost not worth it to build. It took him 3 months to find someone w/ a 5.0 HO motor...then he needed a dana 44 and a 60 and it seems that nobody knows anything in the yards has ever had an education even on teh stuff that sell every day. I called a couple of those joints during the search and all I got out of them was some toothless jargon about how "chevys got that dang dare chevy POWER and I ain't sellin' nothin' to ya unlessin' ifn' you in ageeerement wif me and my PAW!"
:D I miss the redneck bullsh!t (I'm lying) ;)
If you know some people or some places that would be more on the level of at least 3rd grade people skills I and he would appreciate it :D

He didn't happen to drive the body to Murfreesboro in the bed of a fullsize to have a custom cage put in it did he? :)

Last week I heard about some guy stuck out in Collierville where "no one could get to him"... I called him and asked who had tried to get him out. His answer was "Well, seven Z's (hick term for Z71) have gotten stuck so far trying to get back to me. You really think you're Toyota will make it here?"
What are you driving?
"Well, my Z is stuck good."
I mean, what tire & size?
"Oh, uh... 33-inch Mud Kings"
Yeah. I'm pretty sure I can get you out.
At this point I was wondering wether he knew that people manufature thing like detroit lockers, and tires larger and more agressive than a 33" Mud King.
I could have (but admittedly didn't) drive all the way back to him in 2WD.
How's the progress on built rigs in that area? What are the new trends and what not?Well, our group builds so we can do things besides mud. Or I wouldn't have bothered with the solid axle conversion. There's quite a few diehard mudders around (44s, 1 ton axles on a fullsize, and about 500+ HP) still, but a lot more built jeeps are showing up, because they can wheel parts of the trail that aren't just mud holes. You get far enough up into the hills and it becomes fairly dry and a lot more technical.
A lot of guys have built rock crawlers. You just have to tow them to Hot Springs or the Nashville area to do much with them.
[qb]If you know some people or some places that would be more on the level of at least 3rd grade people skills I and he would appreciate it :D [/B]I know qutie a few. They're wheeling buddies. If he's got a computer, point him over to this link:

I know a buddy who has a D44 and a 9-inch he might be willing to let go, and a few guys who've browsed most of the wrecking yards around here and could point him to the good ones. Being a Toy owner, I can only critique the import yards.

I run the web site for www.metalfusionfab.com - and they had a Willys body comeon for a custom cage from down that way last year some time.... and I could have sworn it was referenced here off POR.
Does this look familiar? :)

Sillyneck 04-29-2002, 12:59 PM The last time I was in TN was 1997...so all I remember are the "rigs" at germantown high school. Mainly that damn CJ-5 I think it was...it was green narrow track and got taller by the week...but the tire size never caught up :D I can't really talk Sh!t cause I was wheelin' a stock exploder back then :D
(10th grade)
How old are you and where exactly are you from? I lived right off poplar ave on featherleigh lane in whatever that yuppie neighborhood was called. :D I wonder if we know some of the same people?

Did you by chance play any sports? I graduated in 94 here in Nashville - but I would have to laugh if I wrestled or ran track against a young Sillyneck from Germantown

Yea that's joey's cage...he just e-mailed me. it was your reference. ;)
At the very least, if you're gonna design a buggy and build it from scratch show some creativity and come up with something that doesn't look like another Scorpion knockoff.
