: Automatic Rebuild Q's

I've been searching high and low, but have not found much information on the Internet regarding high performance 727 rebuild information. I know someone will point out some information I should have obviously found  Rebuild will be in the range of 500 bones, I'd love to add the RV gear set, but I don't think I'll have the extra money to invest :( While I'm into the tranny, I'll firm up the shifts, manual body (first and second) D will still be full auto. I'll be selling the parts I've amassed for the manual, bell housing, flywheel, pedal assembly, linkage, T98 tranny, extra case, T18 top cover for reverse, etc. I also found a few additional odds and ends not included in my list, heavy duty thrust washer, 4.7 intermediate band apply lever, either of these two worth the trouble? I'll of course be running a remote cooler, temp gauge, and extended breather.

Here is the list of sheet I plan use for my rebuild.

$30.00 remote Filter Kit
$50.00 Mopar Performance Pan with extended pickup
$175.00 TCI Super Rebuild Kit
$25.00 Rebuild Manual
Two options for the TC
TCI High Torque $221.99, stall around 1,800 range
Mopar Performance $235.00 claimed 1300-1700 stall

Just to confirm IH uses a 27 spline TC:question:

Good move to go with the higher stall converter, it allows you to finesse your way over things while keeping your RPM in the power bands. The low stalls tend to make you floor it to get the TC to give you enough *umph* at the low RPMs. Higher stalls let the engine rev to where it wants to be (just below 2000) and then lock up, therefore you'll be able to baby how fast and how much *umph* you put behind your wheels.

We also carry bolt-in sprags and lower gears for the TF727.

Let me know if you want some.

Ummm.. yeah, but a higher stall converter, and using it like you've described, is also a great way to make some heat inside the tranny.

I guess it's not that bad if you like to rebuild autos...

Joe - have you considered the Jeep tailhousing and a Jeep 300 with this swap? Inexpensive, and you're ready for the Atlas everyone loves to push (raise your hand if you have stock in AA..)

Or better yet, a Klune-V like Scoutaholic runs.

I like my stock converter for wheelin' - and it helps with compression braking, too.

Get the Kevlar clutches. :)

There are other tricks a good tranny guy could help you with.. servo upgrades/repairs, better bands like Chad mentioned..

can anyone confirm if their is a difference between stall speeds in scouts vs truck/travelalls? It sure feels like the truck/TA has a higher stall speed but I dont know for sure.. thanks.

Would be ideal, but the prices have gone through the roof lately, all around $300.00

OK talked to the boys at JVX Racing. All the do is Mopar Autos Got the scope on what they sell and recommend.

Here is the link
http://www.jvxracing.com

According to them ideal would be

Rebuild Kit with Kevlar $169.00
Valve body kit $80.00
Rebuild TC $120.00
Kevlar Rear Band $35.00
Low 2.74 Gear set $425.00
High Capacity Pan $50.00
Remote Oil Filter $30.00
Rebuild Manual $30.00
Total $939.00

If I pull the 2.77 gear set then I'll save almost half. OS if you come across any more sets let me know.

Joe

Thats not much of a reduction for $425, I think I would spend my money on something else.

I agree high stall = high heat, and heat is the enemy.,,,

That's what I was thinking when i opted not to put in the lower gear set. Lots of $$, not much result.
