: Fuel Sender in new fuel tank being a pain

Installed the Man-a-fre 28 gallon (under the front seat version) fuel tank in the cruiser. Have Auto meter fuel gauge dash. Installed the sending unit in the tank, (the same one that came out of the stock tank, and it worked fine) adjusted it to center. The problem is that while driving the gauge is all over the place. It never reads correct. Its only correct when the rig isnt moving. Everything is tight. And its the right sender for the gauge.
The question is, could it be the tank doesn't have enough baffle's. And I'm screwed.
Or is there another sender on the market that is a little stiffer on the float.

Thanks
JR

Just guessing here on the tank. Is the new tank deaper than the stock tank the float gauge come out of? The Autometer float guages are adjustable. Did you adjust the float for the depth of the new tank?

what year cruiser??? When I built my fuel tank I only added two baffles to it and they were angled toward the pass side of the tank. The baffles are approx 2" high off the floor of the tank and the sender sits/swings between them... I dont have any problems with mine bounceing around at all... It does read most accurate when the rig is sitting level but it dosent bounce... I am however useing the stock sender and guage... I suspect there is some sort of curcuit in the stock guage cluster to "smooth out" the voltage signal so it reads more of an "average" instead of "real-time" like yours appears to be doing... If the sender is aftermarket as well as the guage, the stock tanks baffles may have prevented the guage swing before...

Then again I may be full of crap too and not reading your question right....:rasta:

oh yea.....

RAT, thats just rude, remember I have a very expensive tool of yours.
So, an introduction is in order.
Well, lets see. I like Cruisers, long legged women that talk dirty, beer, (anybody's), and the fact is, oh hell, I just give up.

Anyway, its a 73 FJ, the tank is a little deeper than stock. I measured the depth, how much fuel was in it. Luckily it was at half , so I set the guage for that.. Its not hitting anything inside. Maybe will check into the cluster idea.

The question wasn't read wrong, I think some of my circuits are shorting out. Brain to keypad problems.

Thanks to all, and Rat, check your PM.....Oh, your gonna pay!...:)
