Rubicrawler 04-29-2002, 02:49 PM Lookin' good! I'm going to be installing a cage in my daughter's SII very soon. Do you have any pics of the bar near the dash? Specifically the area around the glove box?
TIA!

Sorry. I don't. But I will try to grab some film and shoot a couple close ups of those areas.
The cage goes into an SII different from how it goes into an SSII. I can kick it outward farther because I don't have to worry about the window crank, so I can still open my glove box. Often the glove box and the window crank are a problem on SII installations.
What kit are you using?

I can get a Shittybuilt for $105 or I can have one custom bent by ToyFamily. Have yet to decide. What did you use?

Smitty. Not much they can do wrong with a roll bar. The top bar was not wide enough, but I cut it up and used it for stringers, and got a new top bar to use. I also didn't use the feet. Too small, in my opinion, for soft Scout floorboards ;)
I am VERY happy with the way it all turned out. And I owe Rick for all his time with the firestick.
Ben W 04-29-2002, 04:47 PM Looks good, now you can attack the rocks on Memorial day without fear of squishing your head. :D

I'll still have fears of knocking my noggin!!! ;)
Still have to finish the ladder bar, get a deeper tranny pan, and new shift body for the tranny. It never ends. Ouch, only about a month to go.
How long to drive over again doing 65? I am going to try to cram an awful lot into that weekend. Head over either friday night or saturday morning. Wheel all day Saturday then head back Saturday night. Gotta go to Sequim on Sunday to my folks cabin. They bought a big playset for my kids and I need to help them put it together. But, I might go to sequim on Sunday, and not come back till Tuesday. I have Tuesday off work. Nice 4 day weekend ;)
Ben W 04-29-2002, 05:59 PM I'm not sure how long your drive will be. Check your email, lets get a plan figured out.

4wparts has the weld-in cage kit for 115. You have to have a "sport" bar to tie in to.
I am so in for at least a front cage from toy family if you can get a deal for two. Joe might be interested as well. Sillyneck is another option. I'll get a quote for three cages. All the same design.
Sillyneck 04-29-2002, 06:42 PM Sillyneck sillyneck :D :D :D Sillyneck sillyneck! ;)
has anyone ever made a scout cage outside of the vehicle based on the stock bar?
I was planning on removing the one I made for the scout so I could get it powder coated but...... it will not come out because the factory sport bar has to move forward to clear the inward sloping body. I don't think any cage will come out of a scout unless it is a bolt together or it's cut out. Let me know what you know, or if you want the 3 made I can get each of your rigs separately that is if you choose sillyfab :D p.s. I got the best prices ;)

What would you charge? or are you talking as in doing it yourself vs. having someone else do it? damn confusing IH people ;) LOL

Thought you did not surf any boards other than POR? What are you doing over there?
Each board had folks ask me to post it, so I did :D
And, yes, I am VERY proud of it ;) And much safer, thank you.
BTW, I didn't post it on the Snort board, or JU.

Bet I could get mine out in about, oh, 5 minutes or so, if I had someone to help me lift it out. No cutting, and it is not a bolt in, except where it bolts through the floorboards to the body mount :D

Which way does it have to be tipped or twisted? cause the only way the one I built would come out is if it was lifted straight up and it hits the body.
is that the stock middle hoop or is that a new piece too?

Stock middle hoop. Mine would come straight up. The front legs splay at the bottom, so it gets a little tight sliding in, but not bad. Not bad enough to scratch anything. We welded the front cage together, then dropped it in and welded it to the main stock bar. But, it would be a pc of cake to pick mine up and out because mine is on top of the step. Tilt it all forward a little, then slide it back so the legs slide out from under the dash, then up and away she goes.
Rubicrawler 04-29-2002, 10:56 PM We don't need no fawking sport bar :flipoff2: Amanda's got one of them thar custom built jobbies:rasta: Should be able to tie into it okey-dokie!

What... What... I can't tell if this is the rubigoddess or the rock crawler? :flipoff2: The avitar show's a person with the cahones to drive a real rig... But I hear you drive one of them pony's? :flipoff2:
I just need a CAGE! A full cage. I figger I can sell the stock bar for a hundy and put together a new cage for two hundy. Am I wrong? NOOOOOO, I don't think so!
lt303scoutin 04-29-2002, 11:19 PM Patty, last time I went to Yakima it took me about 4 hours from the seattle ferry to Grandview.
I hope to have my roll bar in tomorow. can't decide if 'im going to put the front cage int this one (family scout) or save it form my profect scout (scout for Gettin it).
The paint turned out great , in my first road trip since the paint, I was stopped 4 times, 5 thumbs ups, and too many rubber neckers to count. All in a 1 hour drive.
anyway, roll bar tomorow.

I can't believe that not one of you guy's have given me any shiat for the fact that the EB couldn't answer the bell yesterday. You fawkers are slippin' :flipoff2:
Now, if I had taken the EB and embarrassed all you tractor lovers, I would have an EB pic for my avitar. For now I'll settle for Mandy's rig :D Beside's she dig's it!

Scoutillac 04-30-2002, 08:48 AM Looks good Patty, glad to see you finally finished it:flipoff2: When can we expect to see the 500 page write up on the install and fit up?:rasta: I think we should test it out next weekend, I'll be at the clean up, so c'mon out and lets field test that thing:D
tsm1mt 04-30-2002, 09:07 AM Think outside the box, guys.
When I put the 'cage into my racer, the rig I cut it out of was missing the inner quarters n' such (fell off on the first jump, LOL) so it was a bit "wide" for a Scout that still had the back-half.
One come-along around the bottom of the bar to try and cinch it together a little tighter, and then my Hi-Lift and a 4x4 post between the top of the inner quarters - I then "jacked up" the HI-Lift and pushed the quarters apart a bit wider so I could grab the sledge and "help" the rollcage into place.
Then I took the Hi-lift and 4x4 out and removed the come-along.
No problem.
Worst part was I had to take the speakers out of the quarters.. not that I could ever hear them over the open headers, I guess...
