: 10 bolt rear end rebuild
fourwheelin-feelin 09-25-2006, 12:23 AM hey guys need some help with my 10 bolt rebuild....i have 3.42 gears..any suggestions on the the cheapest kit with ring and pinion gear...bearings...and seals...also the yoke comming off the rear end has a nice groove worn in it allowing the fluid to leak past the pinion seal...and a new yoke is very expensive... does anybody make like a sleeve kit for the yoke ...similer to the sleeve kits for harmonic balancers? or is there another way i can fix this with out spending $120 bucks on a new yoke?
Find a whole new rear end. You will spend a fortune trying to fix the one you have and can easily find a serviceable rear end from another truck.
fourwheelin-feelin 09-25-2006, 12:41 AM ive called about 4 different junk yards and they all wont about $1000 for a rear end hub to hub....and i can rebuild mine for about $300

Triaged 09-25-2006, 08:58 AM Any axle goes for $150 at the local wrecking yard (ecology). If you go on a half off day that they have a few times a year they are $75. They charge a core charge, some environmental fee, sales tax, etc and it ends up just under $90 total. Just go pull one. I don't think I have ever seen less than a half dozen 14FF's there.
jesster 09-25-2006, 09:10 AM 14B FF is a good option, but you would have to change the front outers to 8 lug to match...
You also might want to consider a 9.5" 14B SF, as they can be found in a 6 lug(though not near as common as the 8 lug ones).

what yard sells this axle for 150? ill take all of them they have.i work in a junk yard. we get more than 150 for just the axle shafts.

well i wouldnt be shoppin there. That is a complete rip off, hell i got a 4.56, detroit, 14ff for $245.
The only problem with getting a junkyard 14sf/ff is that a 3.42 isnt gonna be very common and then you would spend a couple hundered changing out you front ifs gears. I can say that I replaced a 10 bolt/gov-bomb out of a 92-95 blazer/tahoe last year and the axle was only $300 plus 50 for shipping to a loading dock.
that-guy 09-25-2006, 05:05 PM wow u r fuckin people, entire rear axles go for 80 at my local pull n save no we dont give things away. the places you buy from are fucking themselves. if we are fucking folks so bad why do i ship this type of axle to other yards in other states.for the same price.

Jeepermat,
Tell me which yard in Co is selling for 80, I will be there with a trailer. In the last week I have called ALL in western Co and the best I have found for a 14 bolt is $600 + 150 core.

X2 on the Western Slope yards are wanting a arm and a leg for axles!Last time I priced one at a yard they were wanting $300 for a 12 bolt rear and $800 for a 6 lug 14 bolt SF.If you keep an eye on the paper you can find them cheaper or whole rigs for cheap.Luckily guys know I want these so I have gotten a few axles for free or cheap.
Billetburb 09-25-2006, 08:34 PM Cheepin,
10-4 on that..I am on the Hotchkiss side of the mesa...man its tough over here. Besides the foot of snow in the yard Sat (7000 ft) these yards play hardball  I'm keeping an eye on the papers and backyards:D

Jeepermat 09-25-2006, 10:19 PM Here ya go
http://www.pullnsave.com/hoursdirections.htm
A few weekends ago they had a special on rear ends for $50. I bought a front 44 from them for 100.
I am pretty sure there rear ends are less than 100.
On edit: U have to pull it yourself, that is why it is cheap.
Billetburb 09-26-2006, 09:31 AM fourwheelin-feelin,
Sorry for the high-jack:D
Jeepermat, thanks for the link. Pulling it your self does make it a little tough when you add in 8-9 hours driving. Just called and they cant tell you what or if they have a particular part or truck. That's kind of a killer when you aren't already over there. The search continues:mad3:

Jeepermat 09-26-2006, 11:45 AM Yep I live an hour away from them, so its not too bad for me, they do not keep inventory of their stuff, so it does make it difficult. I do know they have tons of 14bolts hanging in trucks though
