I decided to change the gas pedal in my cruiser from the old style that was a rod going through the firewall to a newer cable type. I bought two different ones from the junkyard for $7.50 each and after some trimming neither of them work. I could make them work if i were to cut the trans tunnel or take a big hammer and smash the tunnel some, but before I did that I thought I would ask if anybody else has had this problem and how did you fix it? If you have any pics that would be great if you could send them my way. Maybe I got the wrong pedals, one is from a 89 chevy fullsize truck and the other is from an el camino, both have different mounting bases.
Thoughts, words of wisdom or anybodys .02 worth would be appreciated.
Thanks

No pics, I'm not at home, BUT what I did was use the bottom section of a FJ40 pedal assembly and weld on to that the upper half of an arm pirated from a toyota car(early eighties-still carbed) It has the clip for the cable throttle and the cable as well. This cable worked great on my conversion and took less than an hour to figure out. I lopped the upper part of the toyota car pedal and welded it to the landcruiser pedal assm. so that the clip for the cable lined up with the two small bolts of the firewall about three inches above the gas pedal. these bolts now secured the throttle cable to the firewall. A little filing of the cable mounting pad was needed as was a 1/2" hole in the firewall between the two bolts.
Cost about $13 for parts at pick your part...
