I have a 89 power ram with 6" of lift, and the front driveshaft wont work, i tried twisted my front axle and there still way way too much angle for my driveshaft.

I heard of people spinning there transfer case and the bolts line right up, would the holes line up on mine??

what suggestion do u guys have???

please help me?????

thanks!!!

is it binding at the u-joint or wont reach because its too short now??

6" of lift it shouldnt bind especially if you rotated the pinion up. (caster shims im assuming)

if its too short well, duh!!! time to pony up some $$$ and finish the job....

its a bit too short but that the big problem cause i know a guy that could shorten it, its kinda more then binding , it wont go low enough to even come close to reach, where i could turn my driveshart by hand with it on the transfer case without it binding, the end of my driveshaft is about a good 4" atleast to high to my pinion shaft

My truck had 3" springs in the front, and my driveshaft was maxed out just sitting there. You need to have a new shaft made with high angle pieces. You will probably need a bigger yoke on the diff to accept more angle as well, even my diesel has the little joke u-joints on the front shaft. Talk to a good driveline shop.

stupid question but its not hitting the exhaust or crossmember is it? We had 5" of lift on my wifes 87 ram with no troubles at all with the stock shaft in place and she would wheel the crap out of this thing.. she could stuff her 35's and no driveshaft problems...

is there any kind of spacer to lower the transfer case for better rear shaft angle or is it stock? what transfer case? what leaf springs and does the front pinion point up, down or level? stock cv style front shaft? pics? email them to me and ill host em....

no its not rubing on anything, its not close to anything, everything is stock on it, i have 6" lift springs by skyjacker, and my front pinion is pointing up, ill try to send u pics

and on my front driveshaft is a knuckle with 2 u joints in there

so you think im better off to just buy a whole new front drive, i've price a few from the US and there all over 1000$ then i've gotta get it shipped to Ontario,Canada

i priced a driveshaft from high angle drivelines, they say it bolts rigth on and its ready to go, its a lil over 1000$(canada) should i just go for that? or is there any other options?

how about spinning the transfer case, any hear of that before??

the term is "clocking" the transfer case.. if you do that to reduce front shaft angle you end up with the transfer case hanging MUCH lower from under the bottom of the vehicle which means more succeptable to damage, new exhaust, crossmember, speedo drive will be pointing into the floor, shifter issues etc....

most people "clock" their transfer case to get MORE clearance under the rig...

try taking the shaft out, examining where its being limited at... some of the cardan joints have "ears" that limit its angle that can be ground down to get some more angle out of it (within reason)

pull it out, snap a pic and send it to me and ill post it... we can go from there

Now I'm not intending to take any business away from a PBB vendor or anything, but I would suggest taking the truck to a good local driveline shop. They will be able to rebuild your front driveshaft to meet the new requirements after the lift.

You could also clearance grind the CV. It had little metal tabs that limit the travel. Cut them out and then grind on what hits until you have clearance. Most of the time a flap wheel will clean it up pretty quick.

I did this on my old front shaft and ran it for a year with no problems.

the thing is that theres no driveline places around here, but ill try those other things and ive notice those metal tabs
and i'll make it a lil longer too and see what happens

Yesterday night i grinded the tabs of my stockdrivshaft and rounded everything off for clearence then i bolted it to my transfercase to see if it had enough angle then i noticed it might be long enough so i bolted both ends then i took my rubber boot off to see and theres more then enough splines so i took it off and greased everything and threw on new bolts and now my 4x4 works great, took it for a 20 mins ride with no problems

thanks guys!!!!!!
