: Roktek Engineering (Don't buy anything from this place)
Matt K 04-30-2002, 05:37 AM Ok, I know everyone saw my post on Avalanche Engineering. Well here we go again with RockTek Engineering. I paid this guys some $$$ to build me a power steering pump bracket to fit a Saginaw pump into a '94 YJ. Why. I just don't have the equipment to do it myself. Anyway. I ordered this bracket the week BEFORE Christmas. Lets see its now May. Thats 5 months. So what do I have, a POS bracket that runs the pump and some wierd angle and would probably throw the belt. I don't know because the bracket cannot even be adjusted because the pump is mounted on such a bad angle that nothing fits without crushing the fuel lines. I am posting here because I cannot get a hold of this guy or get him to send me my money back or even return a phone call for that matter. So until this guy returns my calls, I am going to let everyone else see what terrible SH*T this guy makes.

As you can see the fuel lines are crushed. The pump runs on such a weird angle that it will throw belts, if it could adjusted. :flipoff2:
If anyone knows Justin Holtz, can you please have him take some time from his busy schedule to return a call to a customer who has been waiting for 5 months. At this point I don't even want him to try and fix this. I have no confidence in the him at all. I just want my money back. I called there so many times. I am not spending another 10c calling Texas looking for this guy.

bigdude 04-30-2002, 06:09 AM You need to keep a tub of KY around for your a$$ :D :p :flipoff2:
How was the initial offer proposed? Does this guy sell some other type of steering stuff and he told you he could do this also? How did you find him? Is there a website so we can see if that is constructed as shottily as that bracket:barf: :barf:
I feel for you, nome sane:D
SHERPA 04-30-2002, 06:39 AM define $$$---??? was it like $100 bucks? 50 bucks? 150 bucks?
maybe the donor motor he used was slightly different... maybe
the saignaw pump he used was clocked slightly different...
talk to the guy..... that is, if he is answering his phone..

Jakesteramalamajama 04-30-2002, 07:54 AM Dude,
You're either the pickiest customer on the planet or you've got the sh!ttiest luck I've ever seen... You should start doing stuff yourself.
You want something done right...

You need to spend money on tools instead of bolt-on shit. Start doing this yourself..lookat all the time you have spent just trying to get a decent product.....

Since I have built my jeep up 3 times in the last 3 years. I have gone really big this time.
Everything but the frame and motor went BYE BYE. So since I have so much to do to try and get running by this season I decided to buy some items and build others. Believe me, that if I didn't want to run this season I would have attempted everything myself. And Yeah I do have the shittiest luck in the world. My friends call this "MATTLUCK" and use this word everytime they get F'D over as well. And I am not very picky, I feel that I am very understanding. Ask Jesse and High Angle. I have been working with him developing a bracket for my tcase. I have been really patient, but I do require people call me back and let me know whats going on. I feel as a paying customer I deserve that. So to JESSE, my hats off to you sir. You have the know how to get the job done, and the courtesy to call your customers back. :) To all the rest of you people like this guy at Rokteck, get a clue your loosing customers. And you wont get any new customers doing business like this.
maybe they read the pirate board and think ah heres a sucker lets fuck him good. sounds like you are a little fast to say dont buy from so and so and blah blah blah. personally i had good dealings with avalanche and after this post im thinking the reasons all your shit dont fit is your a moron, but thats just my opinion:flipoff2:

YEAH, your right. I obviously threaded the screws in wrong and the pump is really not interfering with the fuel lines.
oldjeep 04-30-2002, 08:43 AM Why not just move the fuel lines? Looks like it would fit fine if you get them out of the way. Might have to hammer adjust it since it looks like it got a little bent.
Other option is that it's the wrong pump - looks like the cap is cocked towards the middle - there are a few different pumps around. Either way I'd just fix it, not worth the wasted time trying to find something else.

Yeah... It's not like God reached down from the heavens and ordained that the fuel lines be routed in their exact, stock location... Move 'em.

nmujeepin 04-30-2002, 08:59 AM other than the fuel lines being pinched it really doesnt look that bad grab a hammer and bend her a little :bounce2:

I shouldn't need to hammer anything. I bought a bracket and I expect it to fit. Enough said.

You're wrong on that one dumbsh!t, but that's just my opinion :flipoff2:
PM Matt and ask him about his ride, you'll see. I don't think that swapping in an NV4500, Atlas, HP60&14bolt, and extending the frame would be something a moron could do.
5 months w/o a response is pretty bad, but I agree- just bend it and re-route the fuel lines to get it to work, then forget that company.

You'd be amazed at what a moron with a welder can build. :flipoff2:
That said, Matt, quit your bitching. Take what you have, make it work. Someone mentioned the pump you used... look into that.
There are tons of one man shops out there that won't be there next week because they either sucked at customer service, couldn't handle the demand for their product, or had no product in the first place. Looks like you might have found one. You don't expect them to keep answering the phone when they're out of business do you?
I don't know if RockTek is in business still or not, but if what you're saying is true - then I wouldn't expect them to remain in business long.
Suck it up.
jp junkie 04-30-2002, 10:02 AM It is very rare to have a custom part just bolt up. Usually some modifications are needed. Make the shit work, or return it, and make your own.:D

I am yet, to date, to install any product from any manufacturer that was advertised as bolt on, without having to "modify" it with a 2.5 lb sledge. That goes for axles, lifts, etc. I take that back... I've never had to really modify a driveshaft before.
Get a hammer, bend the thing, and be done with it. You really want to be running this summer, bend it to work, call the guy and tell him he sucks, and get the thing on the road; or; wait for the guy to respond, meanwhile your rig sits and rust, and we'll catch up with you on the trails next summer.

Exactly, you only need to go a few feet to see how well the new lift will sidehill before it flops into the duck pond:D :flipoff2:

I just hate to see a friend getting trashed about stuff that isn't true. Like the "no tools" comment from a 30 post newbie who is just trying to look cool. :flipoff:
I agree with everybody that he should just bend it up to make it work, or somehow rig it to work, whatever to get the thing going.
My point in posting that link was so that everybody who kept telling him to go buy tools, make it up, and other shit would realize they aren't dealing with some pimple-faced kid who flips through quadratec all day looking for something new to buy with the money he made flipping burgers at Wendy's.
MattK helped me do my first axle swap shortly after I met him, I talk with him a lot and he is a good friend.
Once again-
I agree that he should quit worrying/dealing with this company and either A) Make it work or B) Make his own.
I just wanted people to know a little more about who they were dealing with before they started cracking on him about "not having tools" or being a "moron"
Looks like that thing was "ENGINEERED" well. Sounds like you got :flipoff2: ed. This topic makes me bring up a question I have been asking myself for a long time. Some of these companies (ANYTHING) Engineering. Are there really engineers there that have engineering degrees??? It makes me wonder.....

I have wondered that many times also:confused: For the most part, I doubt it.

Dude, Cool it... I was just bringing to light your defense of your buddy (which is fine) not once, but twice... I mean, the guy can defend himself can't he?
I guess I just hate to see people going on the internet and posting slanderous allegations. I'm not saying Matt didn't get screwed by Roktek or Avalanche, I'm just saying that on the internet, we only get to hear one side of the story (his). Even if both instances were completely true, doing it twice in a month makes MattK sound like a whiner. --Like that dude who posted last week after he got screwed (on JU, no less) saying all kindsa bad stuff about some guy named Punkskalar (or something like that) and bitching because the guy sold something to somebody else instead of him. I thought this was a supposed to be a Jeep Tech. board, not a forum for airing personal grievances. This whole thread belongs in Chit Chat.
Can't we all just get along?
Jake

Maybe this guy, Justin Holtz, drives a train in his spare time when he's not cobbling together shoddy power steering brackets...
That'd make him an engineer.
:flipoff2:
its the dont buy from... and the whining and continuous posts that make you sound like a cry baby, its not even technical info, take it to chit chat. you may have been screwed and you may know what you are doing but trashing company after company just makes you sound like a cry baby. im sure im not the only one who was thinking what i said after i read your second post.
Matt K 04-30-2002, 12:34 PM Ok, Listen. I figured some of you who followed the Avalanche thread would give me credit that I don't BS,keep good notes, and give everyone a fair shot..
I ordered this in December. Its finally showed up in March. When it didn't fit I called and got in touch with Justin. He said he would get back the test vehicle and get me a new bracket. Well that was 2 months ago. He never called back and still doesn't.
Listen all of you guys that never buy anything. THATS BS. You too Jake, I have heard stories about you CRYING as well. :)
I paid for these damn parts and I am tired of getting screwed. If you are in the business of making parts. Then get the done, and get the right and ship that SHIT.
oldjeep 04-30-2002, 12:53 PM Out of curiosity, where the heck is roktek? I did a web search, and they don't seem to exist unless you are talking about these guys www.roktek.com - They do specialize in Bicycles, wood boat maintenance and streetrods  so maybe they've expanded into ps brackets:flipoff2:

The comment was not directed at you, but at "ashmanjeepXJ" who chimed in with the typical newbie "jump on the bandwagon and try to fit in" post.
Yeah he can defend himself, but I will always stick up for a friend.
(with reference to the "no tools moron" comment)

I don't know what the hell are you talking about, but please post a link to whatever it is so I can clear my name before you shovel any more shit on it.
What the hell this? More second-hand rumors like the shit you spread about every other company that doesn't meet up with your high bolt-on standards???
If you're going to start talking about shit you know nothing about you should at least be able to back it up with some details...

Steve N 04-30-2002, 11:02 PM Maybe it's because I heard another side to another story? Maybe not. All I know is I just don't care to hear about it again. I believe we make our own luck very often. I don't doubt that you don't always get the best service. Being a person that has dealt with retail customers for most of my life, you are the guy that makes the vendor cringe. If they do blow it, much to both yours and they're horror it will be on your stuff. Not because they want to just because somehow it just happens. You are the customer that they feel bad for and relieved when you never call again. I'm betting that you just might be a little picky too.
Please don't bother us again. I'm not saying you didn't, or did get screwed. I just don't want to hear it again. By the way nice driveway shot.
