I recently purchased an 88 1/2 ton 4x4 Suburban. I never plan to do anything in it other than cruise the beach, so I am going to stick with the dana 40's. I plan to lift it ( just for looks ). I was planning on going with the superlift 12 " with some 40" boggers. But I am now considering air ride. Has anyone ever fabbed a 4 link front and rear setup with bags for an apllication like this? Is it do able? The main thing that concerns me are drive shaft angle issues. Can anyone shed light on this for me?

You need a whole need light dude. Tip #1: Dana 40's don't exist, and if they did, they wouldn't be under your Suburban. You have 10 bolts front and rear. Tip #2: For your mall cruiser, you don't need 4-links. Tip #3: 40" Boggers will explode your axles fantastically. It'll be like the 4th of July......at the beach! You will not get chicks when your truck that looks really cool but breaks all the time. That being said, get Dana 60's, and remember that chicks dig body damage, and chrome don't get you home.

ok so i meant to say dana 44's. and yes i realize that what i am trying to build is not practical for what you may want. I that were the case I would throw some of these rockwell's that I have sitting out back under it. But thats not the case. This thing is in good shape, so I don't want to beat it up. And I am pretty sure that the dana 44's would work just fine on something that will never see a hill that isn't paved.

They are still 10 bolts under your truck (unless they have been swapped), though. If you wanna run 40's, might as well go with the Rockwells as you can still break parts on the street. Otherwise, just stick to 35's or less and a 4-6 inch lift. That way you dont have to worry about driveline issues to the same extent either.

yeah they been swapped. the guy who had it before me, upgraded a few things on it. Even though he didn't do much other than ride the highway in it. Maybe I might go up on the axles, but I don't wanna go through all the trouble with the rockwells if i dont have to. I have an old dodge out back, 77 model. it's 1 ton 4x4. single rear wheel. i wonder what axles those are? the only strange thing about em is that they dont have locking hubs up front. Can I swap that?

okay you guys win! I just took found a truck in the yard that has the 14 bolt and i guess it's the dana 44 up front?? I 'm thinking I will rebuild the pair and put em under there. After talking to a freind of mine who snapped his dana 60 3 times already in the sand, i figured i should upgrade.

Check with that shop over in Lufkin, they do some pretty slick street rides. I have also seen a Suburban that they linked and bagged that turned out pretty well. I can't remember the name, will check on that for you.

How are we supposed to know what front axle is in the truck you looked at??????? Its either a D44 if its really old, a 10 bolt (probably) or a D60.

An 8 lug 10 bolt will cost you around $250, a D60 will cost around $1,000. For your mall cruiser a 10 bolt will be fine unless you have the cash for the good axle. and on the rare occasion that you might possibly break an axle u joint, thats just wheeling.

i would assume you were talking about dynamic customs. yeah i know cody very well. matter of fact he is the one who told me about ryan breaking the axle in his tahoe 3 times. He suggested that i go with the 14 bolt and dana 44 combo.

Yeah, that would be the place. You would probably be fine with the 1/2 or 3/4 ton front, not seeing very much use. Definatly go for the 14 bolt rear due to the everyday use that the rear axle gets, and it is the one you have to rely on to get you home.
