: Ram assist mounting

I'm running a custom double arm on the passenger side and 1" DOM tubing with heims for my steering on a FJ40 cruiser front axle. I've been trying to figure out a location to place the ram for my hydro assist. I've currently got a "standard" old $50 rebuildable clevis-style 8" stroke ram. IMO, there just isn't any place to squeeze it in there...my tie rod is about 1/4" from the bottom of the springs now. I might be able to locate it behind/under the tie rod, but that seems to put it in harms way.

Is there an option I'm not thinking of?? Am I stuck going with high-steer and/or a welded 6.5" stroke ram with heims??

Anyone got a decent idea on this one???

Here is a pic of my setup, I am using a 1.5" x 8" cyl which I cut the end off the shaft and welded on a short threaded end that my rod end threads into and makes for a much cleaner install.

Let me know if you need any more pics.

I would go high steer...

I'd go high steer...but that means "new" knuckles and more, and frankly, I'm ready to wheel, not wrench! lol

I like the idea of welding something diff on the end of the rod....combined with some ram mods....

I pulled my brand new 8" stroke 10" tube ram apart last night....heh heh. Discovered that there is no reason not to cut down the tube size to 8.6", leaving a 6.5" stroke. Cut the end of the rod and weld on a "bung" for a heim and I'm all set....

If it works, I'll post pics...shot about 8 last night, I'm sure one turned out...heh heh Should allow me to fit the full stroke of the ram between the leaf springs, with the solid mount on/above the front diff and the tie rod mount on the drivers side....lots o clearance there.....
