I have the chance to get my hands on a very straight 79 short wide that has, I believe, 250 I6. I know its a straight 6 and im fairly sure that was the displacement in 79. The trucks also got a sm465 and np205 with d44s front and rear. I already have a 350 with high perf 305 heads that I plan on swappin in.
my question is do any of you know of a stroker kit for the gm I6? I also have a jeep in need of a motor and I have a spare th350 with 205 on it lying around so i thought that might be a good combo. The bigger the better, as long as it doesn't mess with reliability.
thanks

mickyDon't really have and answer to your question, but what in the hell are high performance 305 heads? Are you talking about the heads with the little combustion chamber, and the itty bitty valves? Because those aren't high performance. In fact, there never really was any high performance 305's built from the factory.
Oh yeah, these guys

Isn't a "High Performance 305" kind of an oxymoron??????
Almost kind of like "Jumbo Shrimp":flipoff2:

the HO 305 was 190 horse, better than alot of 350 engines
had 9. something compression, taller pistons, 58cc heads, 350 cam
some 305 were more than 190, the FI ones
dana44 rear ina chevy truck didnt exist
in some old 60s gmc trucks it did though
but real uncommon
also there was the dana 60 rear in the 72 and older GM trucks, was real common and were 3.54 or 4.10 or 4.56 only and alot of them were POW-R-LOK equipped
292 L-6 was around too in chevy trucks, since before 79 and also after it
the straight 6 was referred to in '79 by GM as the L not the I
there was the 250, 292 305 350, 400 and 454 in 79
the vin code digit from 73 to 80 was the third digit in the vin code and heres what they were for 79:
D 250
L 350
R 400
S 454
T 292
U 305
Z 350 diesel
so...
you needto learn more about your truck and some ppl need tolearn more about GM full size trucks history and facts, itnever ceases ot amaze me at how much ppl thnk they know but dont and just guess at and claim as factual
did you know there was also a 305 v-6 in the 60s in gm trucks, gmc made them
also a 351 v-6 and a 401 and a 478, all v-6
GM made some oddball engines, 351 was the largest v-6 in the light duty trucks through 1 ton though
did youknow there was a diesel 350 in the c-10 trucks and some cars in 78 to 85 ?
hope any of this helps somehow
good luck

A 250 is a stroked 230. The 292 has more stroke again, but the block was made ~2" taller to accomodate it, and the fuel pump was moved out of the way of the crank throws.
If its possible, I haven't heard about it yet.
