Has anyone used a Jeep GC as the tow vehicle? I have an 01 V8 Quadradrive that has a 4in teraflex lift and Rancho 9000 shocks. Track has been widened by 3in with wheel spacers. I want to pull my Rubicon on a 16ft 7000 GVW car hauler.
Comments from those with knowledge - Thanks

It would be a safe rig with the proper equipment. A really good quality brake controller and a weight dist. hitch would be on the top of the list. Good brakes on the trailer would also be high on the list. Common sense would be the biggest thing when driving. You have to imagine, the Rubicon weighs just about as much as the GC, I'm thinking. Then add in the trailer and you've got a real load for it. The only reason I'm thinking about towing my rig with the Budget Tow Rig, is that my wheeler is a 3K buggy, and the trailer would only weigh about 1.5K. Not much compared to what you'd be towing.

I have an '89 wrangler SOA on 35" with a 258/4.2 and towed 4K with no problems:
A: Know your equipment & how to fix it on the side of the road.
B: Know your capabilities & limitations as a driver.
C: Know how to put A & B together.

astrailer guy said, WD hitch, a good brake controller and dual brakes on the trailer. also be carful how you load the trailer up. you want more weight on the tongue on that setup or that trailer with wag like a dog andput you across 3 lanes of traffic, ask me how i know. :flipoff2: i towed many miles behing my 01 Limited, it sure was nice, i had every option available that year and the v8, 4x4 part made it a little easier to tow in my opinion. in my opinion i do not know how anyone drives a 2wd jeep, test drove an 01 2wd and it felt just wrong, :). i only had a problem the first time i towed with it after selling off my 2500HD, i did not have enough tongue weight and it wagged so bad i was across 3 lanes of traffic, everyone behind me stopped to watch the show, but with easy correction the 4 wd pulled me out of it and let me keep control till i got my speed down, and stopped the wag.

W/D hitch or air bags and an additional trans cooler and you should be ok.

Thanks, I really appreciate the advice. Looks like I would need to order a trailer with brakes on both axles, everyone seems to get them with only 1.

I have towed my 4700# XJ on a carson 18 foot trailer with my wifes ZJ 5.9 exactly ONE TIME. Scary as fawk. As far as I am concerned her rig can barely stop itself, let alone a trailer behind it.

ive pulled a modded CJ5 on a 1.5k trailer about 80 highway miles. i have an 04 with the 4.7 HO. My trailer has good brakes on both axles and i had a WD hitch. I'm estimating the whole towed part to be 4.5-5k lb. I would not be confortable towing any more. The WJ just does not weigh enough to maintain control in emergency situations.
The fact that youre lifted may cause a little concern. i'm lifted 4" and had to get a slightly special drop WD hitch to keep the trailer and everything level.
