: Vortec/TBI Tweaking

With an up and coming Chevy V8 conversion to an 80 series Land Cruiser I'd like a little advice from the Chevy crowd. (July 1)

Specifically....
Aside from Supercharger/Turbo Charging the thing... What performance mods would be adviseable to a Vortec as well as a TBI (Still haven't decides on which one is going to get used yet, might all depend on what adapter is available for my transmission).

The truck is going to be used to tow a trail rig or two, so low end grunt would be preferable. Changing of Cams? Intake? Headers? Recommendations and personal knowledge on the matter would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks.

What are the pros and cons of the Vortec and the TBI and what are the big differences between the 2. I have been thinking about dropping one into my 4Runner.

TIA

TBI = more reliable and parts are more available, easy to build up
Vortec = 50 more horse but lots of extra electronic headaches to deal with

PROS:
TBI - VERY reliable, 6 wires to hook up if using a factory harness :), easy to mod. CHEAP, easy to program

Vortec - Heads flow like a mother F'er, more power, better fuel distribution

CONS:
TBI - small TB, limited on max power using "stock" TB.

Vortec - Not many aftermarket parts like the TBI's, more complicated to hook up due to OBD II :(, (not really that bad if you have done fuelie swaps before), if using an automatic tranny - must keep everything with the factory harness
