Who's done it? Any drawbacks, or is it a good idea? I am considering chopping the top on my S-10 and need something to cover it up when its raining, and so-on...
I was thinking of using some boat canvas, etc etc for it, but was wondering if it would be worth having someone do it for me? Anyone? Bueler? Bueler? enlighten me....

When I cut the top off of my toy I made a soft top out of a Jeep bikini top. I got some industrial strength velcro from Home Depot and sewed half into the top and stuck half to the little bit of roof I have left. I also took some snaps from walmart and screwed some into the roof and rivited some into the top for extra assurance. The back has straps that buckle around the cage. The way I used to have it, it would flop around some above 60 mph, but I've got it even tighter now.
I also bought a canvas tarp from Lowes or something with intentions of making a soft top kind of like a canback but from the windshield back. The canvas stunk to bad, though. I'd like to know where to get some of that boating canvas in big sheets like the jeep tops are made out of.

One of my friends works at an army surplus place, he gets free shit all the time: Dana 60 fronts, Welders, 48" tires, you name it... anyway I went out there a couple times, and brought home a free hummer soft top. they use them as tarps out there. I am cutting it down to fit on my 1-ton big block toyota pickup.
any army surplus store can probably get army tents or truck soft tops. Call around to local surplus stores.
