I've got a 97 Laredo. It has an annoying pulsing in the brake pedal. 'Changed the front rotors, but it didn't help. Last week I got another 97 and it does the same thing. Somebody I know at a car lot says it's a common problem with the ABS. How can I disable it?

That pulse is the abs pump, you might be able to disconnect the power to the motor, but that might screw up the brakes all together. If you really want to get rid of it, the safest bet may be to remove the pump and rerun the lines from the Master cylinder to the wheel cylinders. Pull the fuse and carefully try it out.

If your Laredo is anything like a TJ there is an ABS System Relay located in the Power Distribution Center under the hood.

If you pull ABS Relay you should disable the ABS System and your brakes should work as normal (without the ABS pump kicking in.) However, I would strongly advise you to double check this out for yourself.

It is your Jeep, and your life that you take in your hands but for the unwanted pulsing in your right foot when you brake.

I wouldn't do this. But obviously it is your choice.

I drive a ZJ. When I first realized how bad ABS sucked off road I would just pull the relay in the power dist. center under the hood. When I swapped axles I just cut the wires that used to go to the tone rings and pulled two fuses and the relay. I get an idiot light in the dash to tell me ABS don't work (DUH), some day I will put in a new master cylinder and get rid of the ABS pump.

The fail safe on newer Jeeps is to allow normal braking if ABS fails so pull the relay and try a couple panic stops in a safe location. You will find everything is ok, and will like many before you just forget to put the stupid relay back in.

My two cents.
